I just hope Danny Etling has a better senior year performance than Jarrett Lee had when the November game @Alabama comes around. Etling looked as rattled as Lee against Bama last year.

Jamarcus Russell would have looked like a deer in the headlights against the 2016 Bama defense.

He reminds me of Matt Mauck and Matt Flynn. Those two guys weren't All-American's but they managed the game, learned the playbook and didn't turn the football over.

Mauck was a turnover machine, especially in big games.

He also was a playmaker.

There are all kinds of crappy QBs that throw well on Alabama's defense. Russell would have torched them.

Y'all, there will be at least some semblance of a QB competition. But everyone, including the coaches, knows even that will be more or less DE's to lose. Oh, Brennan or Scott may just turn god mode or something. Nobody is precluding giving the job to the best player.

Simply, unless something crazy happens this offseason...it's gon' be the senior, DE. And that's fine! Good game-managing senior with starting experience, what more can you ask for? We finally have a GOOD QB, the first since Mettenberger, and we're already trying to dump him for a freshman. Pfff.

Etling is the guy for now, but he cant be described as a good qb yet. Average, serviceable, yes. Good, no.

You must be new, the QB on the bench is always better than the QB that plays. Especially the redshirted one that no ones has ever seen take a snap.

Flynn was actually pretty bad until a few games into his senior season. Mauck was very good as a junior and it gets overlooked that he didnt even play his senior year at all. With a modern offensive philosphy, Etling could be just as good as either.

Scott will be a capable backup but i dont see him overtaking Etling. That 8-9 games of experience is huge. The real competition will be Brennan vs Scott in 2018, especially if Scott gets some meaningful snaps this year.

NO! Let's bicker and group him in with other white QBs! He reminds me of Rohan, but with a 200,000,000 candlelight powered spotlight on him, like, all the time.

I love Etling's heart and what he did for LSU this past year, but if he's the starting qb all season, I don't see any chance of beating bama or competing for the division. His ceiling is just too low.

Etling is not even close to Mauck or Flynn's level. They were both borderline backup NFL players at minimum. Etling is not a borderline backup NFL qb now nor ever will be.

I'll say this, this is the most excited I've been for a Spring Game maybe ever.

Really can't wait to see Etling, Scott, and Narcisse compete.

He's was a better passer this past season than Flynn was the year he won it. More productive and efficient. And you can't even compare his and Maucks first year starting he blows mauck away. He has more talent than both mauck and Flynn.

Etling does not have a great arm, but he's got solid pocket presence, decent accuracy, great size, and decent athleticism.

He is more than serviceable from a natural talent perspective to win a lot of college games.

However, he's not some elite gamer or physical talent that will win games by himself. I am hoping Scott shows some of that in the Spring, he could fit this offense pretty damn well.

Why the frick would I bet that?

Of course Etling has a much better shot to keep the job

What a dumb suggestion. I just said I hope Scott surprises people.
