A redshirt year benefits both physically and we have a 5th year senior returning as the starter. 2018 will be their year to compete for the spot.
Logistically speaking it's better to seperate their eligibility.

He reminds me of Matt Mauck and Matt Flynn. Those two guys weren't All-American's but they managed the game, learned the playbook and didn't turn the football over. Scott will not come in and take the job away from Etling. It's Etling's job to lose. There are plenty playmakers around Etling for him to lead this team to 10-11 wins.
If Etling wins the position, I'm behind him. That being said it's an open competition under a new regime, so it's not his just yet. Interested to see what Scott does at the position. Whoever it is I'll support though.

Yea because height is the only true indicator of a great quarterback

Danny Etling has done nothing to say he should get any consideration over the other two QB other then he was better the Harris which isn't a high mark to achieve.
IMO it is an open competition with all 3 on equal footing and a clean slate. whatever experience Etling has is only a very minor advantage of playing time in games but since Canada's offense will have no similarity to anything Etling was doing last year, you cant really say he "might" have some advantage just because of that.
to be honest, I don't really know Etling's "hype" when he was recruited but I am under the impression that the other two new guys seem to be a grade above what talent level Etling was thought to be when he was recruited.
so to me its 3 blank slates showing up to spring practice and its pretty naïve to assume Etling has a leg up in this.

Etling has a noodle arm...we can win 9 games with any of these qb's.
We need to develop our future.

You cannot live in the pass with Flynn and Mauck those days are over. You cannot and I repeat cannot beat Bama with DE at the QB position . LSU is not New England ok . A pocket passer is a no go the Bama Db's are strong and fast their D - line eats you alive they try to hurt you on purpose.

Not excited for another year of Etling.

I just hope Danny Etling has a better senior year performance than Jarrett Lee had when the November game @Alabama comes around. Etling looked as rattled as Lee against Bama last year.
Miles Gone! Cameron Gone!
Give Matt Canada a chance to work with him in the Spring and Fall.

No, he's nothing like those two.

Flynn was actually pretty bad until a few games into his senior season.
Wrong. 2005 Peach Bowl. LSU 40 Miami 3. Flynn was awesome, looked like the future Green Bay Packer.

Flynn had a NFL arm

Etling has neither, I like him though.
I completely agree.

Your comparing the 1% that have had success. Please stop lol.
How many QBs are that short that are good enough to get power 5 offers, or ANY SEC offers? There aren't that many.
Chris Leak was 6'0 (career 4 years: 61.4% 11,213 pass yards 7.7 YPA 88 TDs, 13 rush TDs, 1 NC, 1 SECC), Johnny Manziel was 5'11 (career 2 years: 69% 7820 yards 9.1 YPA 62 TDs, 2170 rush yards 6.3 YPC 30 TDs), Blake Sims was 5'11 (career 1 year: 64.5% 3490 yards 8.9 YPA 28 TDs, 350 rush yards 4.2 YPC 7 TDs, 1 SECC)

Simply, unless something crazy happens this offseason...it's gon' be the senior, DE. And that's fine! Good game-managing senior with starting experience, what more can you ask for? We finally have a GOOD QB, the first since Mettenberger, and we're already trying to dump him for a freshman. Pfff.
We have a new OC, new HC, 1 senior WR with barely any experience and the rest have virtually zero experience, an RB that caught 9 passes, and a TE that caught 6. Why in the HELL would we go with a mediocre at best senior QB IF, that is an IF, the younger guys show in practice that they are more capable to start themselves?
I would love for this team to grow together and have Scott or one of the others gain a year of experience. What the hell do you guys expect us to win this year that it's worth sticking Milquetoast Danny out there? Develop one of the guys that will be here next year, develop the future of the offense while the defense is growing up. Guice is gone after this year, utilize a young guy at QB to give us a fighting chance in 2018 instead of completely starting over from scratch on offense yet again. These guys have playmaker talent and Danny does not.
I'm tired of Plain Jane QB play.

He reminds me of Andrew Hatch.
This thread sucks.
Kind of like Etling's arm and our offense.

Except it's 100% true and you're 100% wrong.
Matt Flynn 185 yards per game 6.7 yards per attempt
Danny etling 193ypg 7.9ypa
Nowhere near as productive huh? Lol numbers prove you're wrong he's not only more efficient but also more productive.
