This is freaking LSU baseball, mediocrity should not be an option, but apparently it is now.

THIS

That is my point. When did we become the SEC team that might win 15 games in the SEC or just 10? Losing 2 to Auburn is terrible. It shouldn't happen. Period.

This season is not over but with road series in Florida, Kentucky, and South Carolina, you can add another 9 losses right there.

So he won't fire PM or TJ. As has been apparent since they hired him, we need to start with the top down in the athletic dept. Joe Alleva is not the man to run it

This is the dumbest arguement I've ever heard...

LSU recruits as well as anyone in the nation, but as always MLB signing bonuses > NCAA and their is nothing you can change about that.

Why is Mainieri the first coach at LSU that is struggling with this?

Smoke hosted a regional every year besides his last. He was a great recruiter, right? That's what everyone says. Even if he did have some Bertman carryovers. So what's the problem now?

2 straight years without the NCAA Tournament at LSU with your own players in unacceptable, no matter what anyone thinks. And that's what we're headed for.

Sorry.

2008 and 2009 were arguably the most fun I've ever had as an LSU baseball fan. PM won us another national title, and he also piled up 3 SEC tourney titles along the way. I'm proud of that, and happy that he brought LSU baseball back from the mediocrity we went through at the tail end of Smoke's tenure.

That said, 3 consecutive seasons of mediocrity is unacceptable. Granted, there is a long way to go in 2012, but if things pan out the way they did the last two seasons, it is absolutely unacceptable for one of the nation's most prestigous baseball programs.

I'll let 2012 play out, but I'm definitely worried at this point, and I most certainly will not tolerate another season similar to the last two. LSU should be hosting a regional every single year. Every..single...year. 3 consecutive years without hosting a regional is embarassing given the riches that LSU baseball has (fan support, stadium, tradition).

If we don't get better and become super regional worthy in a hurry, I'm ready for them to make a move after this year... at the very top.

We gave up 3 runs today. What are YOU talking about?

We have two guys with an ERA below 2.

If you're refering to recruiting, he's not, have you ever gone down the list of potential signees from the late 90's whom Skip recruited? LSU would lose at least 6-7 high school players every year to the draft...Bertman compensated by signing 20 guys in every class. That's the way baseball was back then, it was regional and bascially LSU was the pinnacle of baseball. The game today is totally different then when Skip was at the helm.

Smoke coached 5 years. His first 3 years you could argue he was playing with Skips players. Smokes problem was exactly the opposite of Pauls today, he only could get hitters into the program. Do you remember in 2006 when he left, LSU had 0 MLB talent what-so-ever. Today? LSU has at least 6-7 MLB arms.

Why are you sorry?

It's easy ... we're only 5 games into a 30-game SEC schedule. Winning cures all. We've got a very tough stretch ahead of us, but I guarantee that things will feel better if we can take 2/3 the next couple of series.

There is a long way to go this year, but many people - myself included - are very worried at the prospect of this year becoming a 3rd consecutive dud of a season. 2010 was fine because of 2009. 2011 the frustration began to mount. 2012 the frustration will reach a boiling point if things don't get better.

Don't defend this team man. Look at the past three seasons and compare them to our past.

We had a run in 2008 that broke every consecutive win record in the book, not to mention, an incredible comeback to make it to Omaha.

We followed it with a 2009 championship.

Now, we have been watching the hitting decrease, even with the new bats other teams are still hitting HR's and producing runs in SEC play, while the pitching gets better.

But it is moot point because of one thing, coaching lost us the game today.

CPM should have squeezed in a run in the 9th, if not it is ok, I understand. But when the 10th comes up and the same scenario is in front of your face, you do not mess up and swing away, you squeeze.

I would rather us lose that way than two double plays to end the game with RISP

Smoke fell victim to following Skip. The players he had went on to play just fine for PM some of them winning it all. PM cannot adjust to the fact that college ball is now small ball like the MLB. Everyone wants huge hitters and high scoring games, when in reality the players just hit into double plays or strike out. It is amazing how the tide is turning. All of you are lemmings. When it is cool to love PM you all love him, now that it is becoming obvious that losing is the new trend the bandwagon changes direction. Anyone that thought a coach that has won 8 SEC series in the last 2 years, almost all of them coming against the few teams that were actually worse than us, was going to lead us to hosting a super regional is mad.

I don't follow baseball much but how is Auburn expected to be in the bottom 3 of SEC when they have won 4 straight against top 15 opponents?

It's time for Aleva to go because he don't have the balls to fire Mainieri. It's definitely time for Mainieri to hit the road.
