Good Lord have mercy on those poor souls on defenses in the SEC
And when the defenses stack 9 or 10 guys in the box where are they going to run without a legit passing game?

Collins, Faulk, and Mealey each had a 200 yard game that year.
But this is the rant where it seems everyone has short memories. It's amazing how many "best ever" at LSU we have had these last few years. How many threads keep popping up saying "best of this"... ever? It's almost weekly... Just the last few months-- Bregman--best shortstop ever? Lange--best freshman pitcher ever? 2015 Baseball team-- best LSU team ever. And when teams/players don't live up to unrealistic expectations, this place likes to eat them alive.

They are certainly worthy of discussion at LSU. Should have picked better examples

There's plenty more examples. I just put some of the most recent ones. I just hate these "best ever" threads.

as a side note: if LSU can't figure out how to pass the damn ball, it wouldn't matter if our backfield was barry sanders, bo jackson, walter payton, and eric dickerson.
This x 1000. We can beat weak teams without the pass but not SEC teams with a good defense. Its gonna be interesting

This was absurd when it was first posted and you're worse for agreeing with it.
You'd have to be retarded to attempt a single pass with that backfield.

Slow down.

This could be the best backfield at LSU ever this year...
Given most are underclassmen this year, 2016 would have fit your contemplation better.

it just breeds discussion. It's not as big of a deal as you make it to be.

Well, you can definitely cross Muschamp off that list.
The only person who can stop Fournette this year is Fournette.

I would rather have:
Kevin Faulk
Rondell Mealey
Cecil Collins
Tommy Banks
Kendall Cleveland
Kevin Faulk

Also 97 (that right?) with Kevin Faulk, Diesel and Rondell Mealey
No
97 is not even in the conversation. Faulk would be the second string back this year; Collins and Mealy would not get touches (Collins was as talented as Guice, but a head case).
Also, fans are getting way carried away. Fournette's the GOAT, Guice looks like he has special talent, but Brossette and Williams are just ordinary LSU backs. Glad to have them, but no one in college football would notice LSU if they were our starters.

considering all them will most likely be back next year (baring transfer)
i would say yet rather than ever, and lets see how the year goes

Hopefully he doesn't become similar to Avery Peterson; never being able to get from under his brother's "success" shadow!!!

There have been many great ones but this may be the deepest when all is said and done. Here's to some names from yesteryear.
Cannon/ Robinson
Davis/Rogers/Robiskie
Robiskie/Alexander/Gajan
Hilliard/James
Williams/Fuller/Martin
Faulk/Mealey/Collins
Toefield/Davis/Addai
Addai/Vincent/Broussard/Carey
Hester/Williams/Scott
Ridley/Ford/Ware
Looking back on all those guys, I can see the OP's point. This could be...

Definitely up there towards the best ever. Fournette and Guice will be unstoppable. I love DW but I think by November Guice passes DW up to #2 on depth chart

Cecil Collins was the best running back in LSU history. He was a POS and got kicked off the team, sure, but in the first three games of the 1997 season, Collins was a special a running back as any to have worn the purple and gold.
See: LSU vs Auburn 1997 on YouTube
234 yards and looked invincible against a stellar Auburn D.
