Making sure only 1 SEC team gets in actually helps the SEC

I don't think any SEC Champion would be afraid of a Big 10,12 or PAC 12 Champ.

Oh ok. I thought you meant someone discussed my specific example about Auburn and Miss St, which if both win out will make the playoff. I think the playoff committee made things pretty clear about their opinion of the SEC West's SOS.

I have a good feeling about this committee getting things "right". I think they will be looking at a teams whole body of work a lot more than we realized.

It's funny how the committee apparently did not take into account the criterion of "team improvement". Clearly LSU's 19th ranking shows that the committee is not concerned with teams that improve over the season.

From 1984 to 1997 the AFC did not win a single Super Bowl. Since the NFC was such the OBVIOUSLY better conference, why didn't they just start putting two NFC teams in the Super Bowl?

Yet when the two best teams meant Alabama getting a rematch under the BCS system, everyone bitched. The SEC West teams play each other and one comes out on top. Then they play the best from the East and we get an SEC champ. There are no second chances. A conference title has to mean SOMETHING.

WAKE UP!
The BCS formula was working very well.so one must ask WHY CHANGE IT? after all, the no. 5 team seldom, if any time had an argument for being in the finals...so why not just add one game-two more teams and it would be fine..
Here is the answer..the NCAA wants $$$$ they could not afford the computer to pick 3 SEC teams and narrow the TV audience and the revenues, so they put it in the hands of politics (i.e humans). They started w 13, now 12 ..(who will decide a tie) ??? ... the one w most power. Since the beginning the buzz is ONE TEAM from each major/best conferences..irrelevant of the "sales pitch" of the NCAA of "the best 4 teams" SHAME ON THE NCAA ! Spin it any way you want. NCAA. .. but we all know it is about the $$$ not football.

The SEC will not get two teams in the playoff except for one scenario: MSU wins out in regular season in impressive fasion and loses a close game to a one-loss Georgia team in the championship game.

And, I'd agree with this unless there are no other one loss Big 6 conference champions (or one-loss Notre Dame) to choose from.

Not too sure, why the current #3 ranked team would get bumped from the top four, for beating Ole Miss, UGA and Alabama....Just having trouble with the logic from some of you guys.

I find it comical that one day after the first playoff rankings are released everyone thinks they know what the committee is doin. The committee doesnt even know what it's doing.
SEC fans think the new system is out to get them
All other conference fans think the new system is out to get them.
I'm an LSU fan. Right now they don't deserve to be in the playoffs. The Auburn loss was ugly and the Miss St loss was not as close as the final score.
Two SEC teams can still make the playoffs. Specifically Ole Miss and Alabama. If they both win out. They both finish in the top four.
The rest of the season needs to play out before going crazy. The air positive thing to consider is that preseason rankings are no longer a detriment to your teams rank. That's a huge plus.

yep, there is no way SEC gets two teams unless Miss State wins all their games but loses to 1-loss Georgia in SEC title game...in that case, it may be really hard to keep Miss State and UGA out

We did

Thats the section I quoted to you. I think they are pretty confident that won't happen as am I but like I said if I does it will test their theory that they are placing a big emphasis on conference championships in which case the SEC only gets one team in and I think that's exactly what they want

The committee knows the SEC will devour itself and is trying to please SEC fans by saying look what we did look how much we respect y'all knowing that it can't end up that way.

They are trying to please everyone I think. Appeasing SEC fans in the short term and non SEC fans in the long term

because if the number one team wins out then auburn won't be a conference champion and because there are no computers, formulas, or obligations forcing them to put any team in...they can easily do exactly what they said and give a boost to a team that ends up winning it's conference over one that doesn't

As of right now there are no conference champs and no team receiving that boost

That is the logic

Guess we'll just have to see...but College Football as we know it would be sooooo screwed if what you'e saying will happen, happens.

I don't think the CFB committee will be that reckless with the future of the greatest sport in the world.

you are close...
this is the laying of the foundation so as to chose ONE top team from each of the 4 strongest conferences and maximize viewing audience.

...IN A GIVEN year (assuming the committee lives on) they MIGHT put 2 SEC teams...
they will never put 3 even if it was at any time obvious of their strengths..

yes, they do cannibalize themselves in their record.

Hey man I liked the BCS

It basically kept the humans in check. You would avoid wild swings in rankings and it was slightly more transparent

The computers basically set a spectrum for the humans to vote within. Without that spectrum the humans element is free to move teams wildly

I would have preferred that the kept the BCS selection process and just added the extra game to make the 4 team playoff instead of this committee. I

I agree. Right now, LSU has almost as good of a chance at making the playoff as Georgia.

Is this a joke? I think Georgia has the best odds in the entire country of getting in the playoff. Beat AU at home then win SECCG. Easiest road of any SEC team by far.

ETA: Don't even need to beat AU. 11-2 UGA SEC champ is definitely in.

Well you should have kept reading because it said short of all but the top 2-3 teams having 2 losses, no 2 loss teams are getting in
