they are setting it up exactly how everyone wants it but the SEC, and other conference fans are so blinded by 3 SEC teams in the final 4 right now they can't even see it

4 conference champions in the playoff, that's this committee's biggest desire

just this week one of the 3 SEC teams will be eliminated from contention Ole Miss plays Auburn (no 2 loss teams are getting in, i think will be the case...and I think they made that clear with this poll). State plays Bama and Ole Miss, Bama plays State and Auburn, Auburn plays UGA and Bama and Ole miss, Ole miss plays State and Auburn a then you have an SECCG

The committee gets to play both sides of the fence and say we dont care about about this and we don't care about that, look we arent scared to put 3 SEC teams in!! Hell I heard the talking heads on tv and radio praising them for being able to look beyond conference affiliation to put the true 4 best teams in and not caring about making anyone mad

But the committee can clearly see the SEC will systematically cannibalize itself one by one...leaving you with one 1 loss team or undefeated team or possibly a 2 loss SEC champ. Short of everybody losing 2 games but the top 2 or 3 teams. Things will go exactly to their plan

Ohio State, Notre Dame, Florida State and Marshall. Marshall wins it all.

I think everybody realizes that those SEC teams will sort itself out...

how is that the committee's fault?

If the SEC champ has 2 losses they are in unless that team is UGA.

I don't think it's their fault. I think the committee is being pretty smart in their approach

I agree. Right now, LSU has almost as good of a chance at making the playoff as Georgia.

I disagree. I think if they let a 2 loss conference champ in which I don't think is likely at all. They will let any 2 loss SEC champ in. I don't think you will see teams rise and fall in polls in ways we have become accustomed to with the AP, Coaches, and BCS rankings

If State and Auburn win out (not an easy task) are they not in though. One would be SEC champion (State) and the other (Auburn) the dreaded" non-conference champion" team. It would be tough to throw out Auburn and their body of work as it would be far superior to the Ducks, Horn Frogs, Gold Domers, etc.

Not that I want any of this to happen.

I think they have made it quite clear that a 1 loss PAC 12, big 10, and big 12 team and notre dame team are all but locks over any 2 loss team. The only one question mark would be a 1 loss ACC team which likely won't even be an issue unless FSU loses to someone

It could be the case, but I also think they know the scenario is unlikely. No way they set it up can guarantee 4 conference champs in short of making it a requirement

The question in this scenario becomes, when they say they are putting huge emphasis on conference championships do they mean it

Agreed. I enjoy the chaos and find it interesting that some scenarios could serve to test the the "conference champion" theory in the first year of the new system. State and Auburn (or Ole Miss) winning out is unlikely, though.

Our fan base bitched about the non conference champion that was awarded a slot in the 2011 BCSNCG. So, for purposes of consistency, I won't bellyache about it , but would find a similar result interesting this year given that it seems the committee has set this up for the conference champions with the thought that the SEC West gauntlet would all but eliminate the possibility of two SEC teams getting in the playoff.

It's quite clear that because they have nothing to keep them in check or accountable, they can make decisions based on whatever formula gets them what they want

For instance they say there is a large emphasis on head to head, which seems to hold true for the most part until you see the large difference in spots between Oregon and Arizona and TCU and Baylor

So I guess they should have ranked MSU #1, Auburn #5, Ole Miss #9, and Alabaama #13. Would that satisfy SEC fans more?

right now the committee sees that the SEC will work itself out so 4 SEC teams are in the top 6. Who ever wins the west out of those 4 teams assuming they win the SEC championship will be in the playoff everyone else will miss out.

My prediction

#1 SEC west champ (assuming they win the SEC championship)
#2 Florida State
#3 Oregon
#4 TCU

On the Bubble
Big 10 Champ
Notre Dame
Georgia
SEC west runner up (Only way this happens if both the big 12 champ and the big 10 champ have 2 losses, and the SEC west runner up simply lost a tiebreaker to the SEC west champ).

The committee will give advantages to conference champs.

a west runner up must be so clearly better than a big 10 and big 12 champ for them to make it.

FSU is likely in even if they are upset.
Oregon just needs to win out to get in.
If both the big 10 and the big 12 have a champ of 2+ losses than a SEC west runner up sneaks in. But I don't think that happens.

I'd have no problem with that if they took the SEC champ (no matter how ugly) the 2 best looking conference champs from the other P5s, and the best mid-major conference champ - if that was the system (until the SEC stops looking so much better than everybody else) - it wouldn't be perfect, but it would be alright.

This is how it is going to be, though, until it gets to 8 - I'm not sure it will ever get to 16, but I think it gets to 8, just because there will arguments - this first year - for 5 through 8 over at least 1, if not 2 of the top 4.

Ummm. What

I was suggesting that SEC fans may be happy to see 3 in the top 4 while fans of other conferences would be pissed because they are being reactionary to seeing 3/4 as opposed to looking big picture

If you had mentioned those numbers and said 'non sec fans' that would've made a lot more sense and your answer would be yes
