Hawkins, Pocic, Clapp, Boutte, Alexander is a really good lineup for now. Boutte/Alexander on the right is insanely powerful and Hawk/Pocic on the left will be good against speed rushers and a little more agile for pulling. Clapp has the strength and agility to play center and is better suited for it than Pocic is.

Hawkins, Boutte, Clapp, Alexander, Pocic may be the most balanced though. Having agility on the outside and 3 bruisers on the inside gives more unpredictability for the run game with the seniors at either side to help out the less experienced Boutte and Pocic at those positions.

eta: 2nd team and 3rd team will be absolutely loaded.

Austin, Brumfield, Dodd, Teuhema, Malone

Domond, Valentine-Okeke, Brown, Magee, Weathersby

Malone has cross trained at both the OG and OT spot. If we have an injury to either OT or OG, Malone would be the guy to step in. Might shuffle things around like moving Vadal to OG or something like that, but he's probably the top backup on the team right now. And he can play OT and OG.

so you are saying we have 1 OL that backs up all positions now? Like he can play both tackle and both guard spots?

No way. Boutte is way bigger and stronger, and has more potential. He could be another Bull Turner.

I'm saying if we lose an OG or OT, he would be the first option to play. He might not play the exact spot where the injured player was at, we might shuffle things around to find the best combination of players (Vadal moves to LT or back to OG, Pocic kicks out to OT, Etc. If we lose an OT or an OG, Malone would be th first guy up.

And we have a lot of guys that can play different positions on the OL. Pocic can play anywhere, Vadal has played OG and OT, Boutte has trained at OG and OT, and Malone has been at OT and OG, and iirc he was a center in high school.

Lots of different combinations we could go with at the OL if something happens. And Malone is probably the first OL off the bench if something happens.

I only saw Malone play LT in high school. In fact on one occasion, playing Plain Dealing, I saw the funniest, oddest thing. They refused to put a dl on his side, no dt near, no de, heck the lber was way away... It was comical lol

He's still one of the lightest OL players...only around 290....in the Big Cat drills, he seems to have his hands full with the bigger opponents...but seems to have decent technique

I think Grimes wants more 290lb-ish guys and less 340lb monsters for his scheme

If Teuhema is as good as advertised, my vote would be to put him at one guard and Pocic at center...but something tells me I won't be asked...lol...on another note, I thought that Brumfield was going to start at one guard...guess I was wrong again...lol

Must be a reason Pocic at LG and Clapp at C. First group out on day one had Clapp at LG and Pocic at C with Brumfield at RG. Seriously doubt an incoming freshman (Teuhema)who was not an early enrolle would be ready to challenge. I think this is your starting 5 opening game

This is exactly the way I see thing. Either way, we have A LOT of good guys up front this year. Maybe nobody a good as La'ell Collins was individually, but I expect these guy to be the foundation of a good year on offense.

Malone would probably be the 6th man on the line this year that can play multiple positions. We've always had this guy (Evan washington, Josh Dworaczyk, T-bob Hebert). He can plug a few spots if we need to shuffle guys around. Brumfield, Clapp, and Teahuma would be the backup guards. Jonah Austin and Jevante Domand are extra bodies at Tackle, and Dodd could fill in at center if he isn't starting.

So no, we don't have 1 lineman who is backing up all 5 spots. We just have 1 lineman (really 2 with Pocic) who is capable of being a plug and play player anywhere on the line. That's the utility guy Miles covets.

Check out the 4* lineman commit from ponchatula in this class and teuhuma in the last class. I'd say Grimes is fine with big ole boys.

Pocic/boutte I really would rather have Vadal back at LG and Pocic out at RT. But either way, this line will be very good.

I feel the same way. Why move Vadal to a spot he is unfamiliar with, and away from a spot (LG) where he was dominant? Pocic is must more athletic IMO, and well suited for right OT. LT/LG would be set with Hawkins and Vadal. I like Dodd at C (big body), with Brumfield and Boutte at OG. Solid all the way across, with good depth in Clapp, Malone, Austin and incoming FR.

Vadal is familiar with RT, he started there at the end of his true freshman season. I just think he's a dominant guard.

This is misunderstood. Grimes wants the biggest most athletic guys he can get. If all else is equal, Grimes wants the bigger man.

The difference between Grimes and some other coaches is that Grimes would rather not put a lot of extra weight on his linemen. So the same guard playing at 340 for another coach might be at 325 for Grimes. But it's the same guy.

Because otherwise he wouldn't be on the team. The odds are that when Vadal was debating about going pro, we had to woo him to stay. Part of the deal was probably that he would get a tackle spot ahead of Pocic who is clearly a better tackle prospect. Pocic has to tolerate it because he can't leave yet. You want to take a guess at where Pocic plays in 2016 if he's on the team? It'll be left tackle, so he can sign for gazillions.
