SERIOUSLY: What's the best way to keep fans in the stadium?

I realize this dead horse topic has been beaten to a pulp, and Mike Tyson bit an ear off! But what kind of SERIOUS suggestions can the rant offer to make the issue go away?

One idea is to allow fans leaving early to give, or even sell their ticket "stubs" to fans outside who want to get in to see the rest of the game (especially if it's a "good" seat). It could add revenue from more concessions. Is this plausible or just a bonehead idea that would never work?

Would be terrible.

"Fans" don't care about the game anymore. It is all about the tailgate and being seen so they can post on Facebook.

Don't even say anything about traffic. What stadium have you gone to and left after the game that did not have traffic?

This.

So many people I know will leave the game early due to not wanting to sit in 2+ hours of traffic to get home; especially with little kids. The only time people are willing to stay and just deal with the traffic is if it is a close game. But if the game is out of hand (winning or losing), people feel it isn't worth fighting the traffic to stay.

Make getting out of campus easier and people might just stay longer.

Efficient play from our offense and defense that results in close games against quality opponents.

This is, like it or not, the truth.

In the Glory Days, when Tiger Stadium was loud, proud and fans stayed to the end, most fans had a flask to maintain their pre-game buzz throughout the game. Except the students ... they had a fifth.

Go to a party where serving alcohol ends at 10:00pm. Note percentage of guests still around at 11:30.

Same party, same guests. Continue to serve alcohol. Note percentage of guests still around at 11:30.

Students used to stay till the end. Students also continued to imbibe throughout. (legal age was 18y.o.) Today, students head out to 'party.'

A secondary fact is the games are now made to be watched on TV. Let's rev up the volume with full-throated cheers. No, wait, it's a commercial. OK, now, start again. Really?

Which coach said, "you can smell the bourbon down on the field." I forget.

if the game is out of hand, either way, majority of LSU fans aren't going to stay to watch them lose by several TD's or win by 30+ points. it's not entertaining.

if it's a one possession game late, the stadium doesn't empty out typically.

people want to watch an entertaining product on the field. once it stops being entertaining, they will spend their time elsewhere. at a tailgate, the bar, home etc.

Invent a time machine.

Although it's not the case EVERYWHERE, it's clearly a problem for many programs in the nation. We notice LSU the most because many of us here are ticket holders and we see first hand the stadium empty.

The whys are plentiful and make a certain type of sense. All games are televised, viewing at home can be more comfortable and certainly cheaper than going to games, traffic, etc. Those things don;t force me to leave, but I can see the appeal to others.

Point being, this is the new normal. Games will now always be televised or TV's that are just going to get better while traffic will remain the same or worse and prices will go up. A large part of what made going to games such an experience that you couldn't leave has been stripped away by the advancements in technology.

As for me, I still look at going to games as a privilege that I am lucky enough to be able to do 7 or 8 times a year. I head up the escalator 2 1/2 hours before kick off, and I stay until the end. I wring every drop out of this experience, because when the season is over, I won't get this opportunity again until the following year. But that's me.

1. selling beer until the end of half time
2. actually fix the contraflow issues
3. show highlights of other games going on during the commercials
4. massive wifi service for cell phones. people want to communicate during the game and use facebook/twitter.

do those four things and the game day experience would be second to none in the entire country.

i could not agree more. The party outside the stadium has become bigger than the game. Fans leave to go back to thier tailgate and grab a beer the first chance they get. 34-3 in the third quarter and fans are obviously thinking let's leave and go drink at our tailgate and just watch the rest of the game on the big HD TV.

Also, once the game is out of hand to the point where one team is in "kill clock mode" and not even trying to score anymore, why stay? It's not a game anymore at that point it has become practice. There is nothing entertaining about practice.
