Imo, I think the only reason the Big Ten is considering any of this is because it is trying to catch up to the SEC. The SEC gets the most money, has the highest attendance and is practically guaranteed to have a team in the BCSNC every year. It is unequivocally regarded as THE BEST conference year in and year out.

The Big Ten (nor any other conference) cannot compete with the SEC as it stands now. By adding some other power or name teams, the Big Ten stands to garner strength of schedule, marketability and exposure, etc. that only the SEC has now. It is generally regarded in the same light as the Big XII and Pac-10-one or two heavyweights, OSU and Michigan, and the rest mediocre.

So I say, the SEC is good and tough enough as it is now. Let them expand and beat each others brains out every year just as the SEC does.

Besides, I just don't see the Big XII breaking up and teams like Texas, A&M, Zero U or Okie St. ever joining the SEC. If we were to get a team from that area, I would think it would be TCU. They could definitely compete in the SEC! But I think a more likely scenario is if Mizzou goes to the Big Ten as is likely, TCU will take its place in the Big XII. There's just too much stubborness on the part of the Big XII to ever dissolve completely. The Okies here would shite all over themselves if they had to play LSU every year!

If the SEC indeed does expand, the teams will likely come from a dissolved Big East. With the Big East being the likely big loser, the teams left over will probably be absorbed into the ACC and maybe the SEC. And I don't think any more than two teams should be added to the SEC.

How dumb are some of you people???? It works the same way.

8 teams per division. As of right now LSU plays 5 division games & 3 none. If the SEC went to 16 teasms, LSU would just play 7 division and 1 non.

There are a few other ways to do it as well, but that's another story. Again IT'S SIMPLE!

When Tulane and GA Tech were in the SEC it was common to only play 6 or 7 league games. Even in the 1970s and 1980s you had only 7 league games with 10 teams and 4 non-conference games so not playing a lot of SEC teams has never been an issue for the league.

IF...IF they go to 16 teams, we can forget about any team from Texas joining as the state Board of Regents will not allow such....UNLESS, we nab Houston - a university that has the ability to benefit the SEC by the SEC benefiting them. 16? MMK...

I'd go this way, though...

WEST

Alabama
Arkansas
Auburn
Houston
LSU
Mississippi State
Ole Miss
Vanderbilt

EAST

Clemson
Florida
Georgia
Georgia Tech
Kentucky
South Carolina
South Florida
Tennessee

I added USF to the east only for balance. The east would just become to heavy a division in 3 sports if Florida State was let in. I think GT and Clemson are more realistic possibilities. Also, if we don't want UK to feel like they're isolated, then Louisville would be a possibility - a very slim one. USF and Houston both are huge universities who are metro-commuter type institutes, but they'd be top notch if they became a part of the SEC. Houston has already proven that they can be good in spurts in all three sports. USF should get out of the big east and get their own stadium and not share with TB. Tampa is also an attractive city and would draw great road crowds. Recruits would be all over USF if they were in the SEC and not that crappy conference they're in. There's potential there. Florida State, meanwhile, ducked the SEC when Bowden was there...with Fisher in charge, who knows? Maybe so.

Your right...Big 10/11 wants and is dying to get in a major TV market.. If the ACC wants to expand also, then 16 teams will need to be expanded to 18...Big 10 needs Dallas/ST.Louis/Houston markets to survive through their TV contracts.

If the SEC pulls 2-3 teams from the ACC, then the ACC will rob the Big East, who will rob the MAC and CUSA, who will rob the Sunbelt and Southland.

Any expansion would have to include Texas/ Texas A & M or both. I see no reason to add Clemson or Georgia Tech since we already are in their markets as it is. Miami because of its national following, Virginia Tech, or maybe even North Carolina would be ideal in my opinion.

I'd like it but it will NEVER happen. A&M wanted in 2 decades ago. They were told NO.

*ETA UNC would be a decent addition....check that...awesome addition.

Arkansas should move to Big 12 North also. They could play Mizzou for the "Sock" Trophy.

Maybe not, but there is no reason to expand if doesn't include a Texas team.

I agree. Great basketball, football on the rise, and it gets us into a completely new market. Would they ever leave the ACC without Duke?

I doubt it...and Duke need not apply to the SEC.

Pisces, here's the deal, "IF" conferences start going to 16 teams, there is no way the SEC is just gonna let Texas go to another conference without a fight....they'll do whatever they can to get Texas....

Since when does the SEC have to wait and see what other conferences do.We are the Leaders we should be first to act and let them follow our lead. That way we get who we want. That being said I don't think we get any Texas teams, we go east.I'm all for shaking it up,tradition is way overrated.

I'd think if the SEC were to expand, it would be into Texas.

The SEC is already the only Super Conference. Adding two or four shitty teams would weaken the Conference, and it you add two to four good teams, you weaken the other conferences so much that it would just make college football dumb to watch knowing the winner of the NC would come from the Conference 80% of the time. The NC would lose luster for the SEC Championship. It just doesn't make sense.

I don't see the Big XII falling apart either. It makes sense for me that Missouri would go to the Big Ten, but I don't see Nebraska or Colorado leaving. I think they would snap up the SWC teams before they just fold. The Big East is the one that gets divided between the Big Ten and ACC.

As for the SEC, I wouldn't mind seeing West Virginia included in any new expansion. For whatever reason, I am intrigued with the whole super-conference idea because it seems like progress towards a playoff.

It depends on how many teams are added. If you just add 2 then Vandy/nashville are the furthest west they just shift SEC West. East would be Florida State,Clemson, or Ga TECH. If you add 4 that gets interesting. I think definitely TCU,Mizzou would be considered West. NO way Texas wants in SEC NOT gonna happen.

FSU joined the patsy ACC because they were afraid of the SEC teams. BoutDone wanted an easier path to the bowl games. I doubt Jumbo wants that challange either.

I think it would bring in more revenue for the conference, but less per team after dividing it up. Face it, FSU can't even give tickets away.
