SEC Expansion

Bill King mentioned this morning on Rivals Radio that Mike Slive said the SEC would be looking to expand the SEC to keep up with what the other conferences are looking to do and he mentioned Florida St, Miami, Clemson and Georgia Tech as schools the SEC would target to get to a 16 team super conference.
My question is since all those teams would be added in eastern division states, how do you think the conference would divide the east/west divisions to try and keep them as even as possible?
Also, since every team would have 15 conference teams to play how do you think the schedule would play out?
I could see every team playing one perminate opponet to keep rival games in tact and then playing 7 other conference teams regardless of division. The next year, you could play your one perminate opponet and the other 7 conference teams you did not play the year before. This way, you would play everone in a 2 year period.
As far as divisions go... I have no idea...You would almost have to forget about geography to create 2 equal divisions.

No way SEC pulls 4 teams from ACC. And who is SEC trying to keep up with??? Who has a 16 team conference right now?

Geographically not that diffucult - Vanderbilt and Tennessee move into the SEC West. It's not totally perfect, but the state of Tennessee sits on top of Mississippi and Alabama.

big 10 is going 16 most likely

A lot of talk about a Super-Conference being formed of four 16-team conferences - SEC, ACC, Big Ten, and Pac-10. Big 12 and Big East would be dissolved.

Negative TN is not on top/north of of Arky. It is above Bama and Miss. Same difference, so, i'm just saying...

I did here this could happen. Colin Cowherd said on ESPN radio that there is a 90% chance that the following will happen UCONN to big 10, and Utah and Colorado to the pac 10. If this happens it could cause a domino effect in other conferences. The only way the SEC will add teams is if we are no longer the biggest conference. We have proven that the bigger the conference the more revenue. I see the SEC being the last to react. The big 10 conference is meeting this week, so we should know shortly. Either way the college football landscape will be different next year.

You're right, my bad. Fixed it.

Also rumors of Texas joining the SEC as part of the super-conference plan and the liquidation of the Big 12.

expanding to 16 is dumb. Just self indulgent attitude from the SEC office. 12 teams are fine. There are no other confrences above that. Who does the SEC compete with really, Big 12 that is about it....

just don't see that happening

If I was running the expansion I would move Memphis( Basketball purposes) and Texas A&M to the West and Georgia Tech and South Florida to the East

The super conference scenario is a real possibility depending on what the pac 10 and big 10 do these upcoming weeks. Below is an article that explains the scenario.

I would assume if this was to happen, Tennessee and Maybe Vandy would move to the west...
arent those the western most east teams?

Maybe you haven't heard about the big 10 possibly expanding to 16 teams. Once it happens, the other conferences will follow.
It has nothing to do with the SEC's attitude.

Man, if the SEC could get Texas that would be awesome

I think this is a terrible idea, not that I think its going to happen. Just hope it doesn't.

if you start adding these teams to the SEC... they will have to change the way a national championship is claimed... that conference would be entirely too lethal.

Yea, I want LSU to keep going to the Chic-fila Bowl, Capital One Bowl, etc. etc. etc.
LSU, would have a better opportunity to win the National Champ. with a playoff system.
Keep your great way of thinking JOSH!

16 teams is just way too big for a conference.
If we were to add teams though, I'd like them to pick up:
Memphis: For basketball and they already have a rivalry with Ole Miss.
Georgia Tech: Rivalry with UGA, a good basketball school and the academics don't hurt either.
Florida State: Hey, it's closer to other schools than UF.
It's very hard to see the Big12 disolving, but I wouldn't mind picking up Texas. Don't want aTm. I also wouldn't want Tulane or La Tech. Maybe USM, Troy or TCU.
