Russell Shepard...either never got the right chance or was just not what he seemed to be?

I vote for the former. I just don't think that Miles and his staff could ever figure out how to get him into their offensive scheme! It wasn't lack of effort or surely not lack of talent(Outstanding HS Player in the entire Houston area!). It was a missed opportunity for LSU. He was helping recruit high school players to come LSU even before he signed his national letter of intent. He proved them all wrong by having a decent NFL stint. I hope he does well in his future endeavors and want to thank him for being such a great TIGER!

I love a throwback thread

That said, the board doesn’t, and you’re probably gonna get downvoted

Anyways, I blame Miles 100%

He was basically a special teams player in the NFL, didn’t exactly prove anyone wrong.

This is weird. Shepard got like 8 seasons in the NFL, at WR. He had a fine NFL career. And he's already having a fine career post NFL.

Greater Houston Area...use him and his successful business for all your commercial or residential waste needs.

He was a depth WR and special teams player in the NFL.

He did exactly what he did at LSU in the pros so he actually proved the LSU coaching staff right.

So frustrating that they never let him throw 1 pass.

I feel like Miles did it out of spite to the general public and media basically begging to let him throw it…

Was actually a good fit for Crowton's offense (for the most part), but the QB situation was

Then Crowton left, some of the touches he was getting went away (either as a result of playcalling or better players in front of him), and he kinda faded from what looked like a lotta promise in 2010.

Both. He wasn’t a QB, but he could have been utilized much better as an all- purpose type player. (Wildcat qb, jet sweeps, rb, HB passes, Slip screens, etc)

We'll always have that Auburn touchdown.

This I agree with. Les and company definitely didn’t know the proper way to handle him.

I don't think throwback threads are the problem. Most people love a good throwback thread, if for nothing else, nostalgic purposes.

That said, what some people do hate are throwback threads that ask the same ridiculous questions, even after all these years later. I mean, seriously, did we really need another thread to rehash Russell Shepard and whether or not he got "the right chance".

These threads are about as exciting as the ones that are started any time an LSU game is on one of ESPN's 30 networks. Especially considering those can be found online at any time you'd like.

Correct. In 7 seasons in the NFL Shepard played in 87 games (9 starts) and had 60 receptions on 116 targets.

I always saw him as more of a speedy defensive end.
