He couln't play QB worth a damn and he could get tackled by a blade of grass, so how would he have been huge for us?

He had a few really big plays. Would have liked to use him more and idc what anyone says I wanted to see him throw the ball.

If you saw him throw, you would know why Miles never let him throw it.

What do you think Miles would have done with Daniels?
Shepherd was rated the number one running QB recruit?

He wanted RGIII to come to LSU and only play WR. Dude won a damn Heisman.

He wouldn’t have won a heisman in Les’s offense. He actually would have been a better fit as a WR in that offense.

What does that tell you about their faith in Shepard being able to throw an accurate forward pass.

He averaged around 10 YPC and we just stopped using him.

He probably would have won the heisman in Matt Canadas offense

I think if we used him right he could have been a heisman contender.

what exactly did he do in the NFL to prove anyone wrong?

all the players LSU puts into professional sports, its crazy to me how some fans have zero concept of what success is at the professional level.

I was invited by a college OC and DC to look at 3 DB’s at Sheps old high school. I talked with the head coach for a bit. Observed the 3 players they were recruiting. After practice I was asked my opinion. My reply was, “ You could change jersey numbers, I wouldn’t know them apart. They all play the position well. “ The OC told the DC, “ What did I tell you?” They had offered all three and signed all three.

Good grief! As another poster pointed out, he did not have a great NFL career. He certainly was not a QB, and only a complete fool would argue that he could have been one of our top two receivers. In fact, Kadron Boone was #3, IIRC, and he was way better than RS.

The only way we could have gotten him on the field is to go to a spread offense.

Didn’t understand the playbook enough to be a QB. Was under utilized in the wildcat and as a receiver. I remember he was tearing up UGA in the first half in 2009. Second half he maybe got two touches. Miles was an idiot when it came to offense.

he only averaged 7ypc as a runner

in 2011, after a successful season as a runner, had 7 carries. Jahkari Gore had more carries than Shepard and only played in games. They totally phased Shepard out and mis-used him.

Russell Shepard: 104car, 716yds, 5td, 6.9ypc

Trindon Holliday: 115car, 776yds, 4td, 6.7ypc

Les miles didn’t have a scheme. He ran toss plays up the middle 90% of the time.

Probably more like 20% of the time.

Almost a ten yr NFL career and over 9.5 million in the NFL, and he couldn't help Les. He did it in spite of Les.
Wow!

I think the hope was he would come and fill the hole that Perrilloux's dismissal created and that Lee and Jefferson struggled to fill. I think most were hoping for Dennis Dixon or Pat White (or Randle-El). So, I guess, in a way, I was expecting him to play quarterback. In the NFL, I had no idea and wasn't all that worried about whether they would Eric Crouch/Matt Jones him.

ETA: And once he was on campus and wasn't going to be allowed to work with the QBs anymore, I was hoping he would be a Chris Rainey/Jeff Demps gadget player with a ceiling of Percival Harvin.

+ nfl Pension vested

Average nfl career is half that.

Average nfl career for an undrafted player is much less
