Rondell was a solid and at times, great running back. Faulk was fantastic but some defenses stymied him. When that happened Rondell would run wild. But I recall many a game where Faulk would put up 200 and Rondell 100+.

Kevin Faulk
Cecil Collins (when not committing felonies)
Rondell Mealey

Destrehan product and good one but not best on roster

And Cecil made Kevin look pedestrian. Guy was unbelievable.

As stated, Mealey was good, but not great. He’ll tell you otherwise. Lol

While I will agree with you it wasn't a huge gap. The bigger thing is they were different type of players. Rondell Mealy was a great player who just happened to have a another great in front of him. Mealy was well on his way to being the starting RB in Green Bay when he wrecked his knee.

Very good back, would have started at a lot of schools. Of course, Kevin Faulk played at same time. Ran low to the ground, hard to tackle. As other posters have said, did hteat when called upon to start. Barring injuries, would had been NFL starter.

Faulk got hurt in 1997; it then all boiled down to MC^2: Rondell Mealey and Cecil CCollins, and they delivered the rest of the season.

Faulk, Collins, and Mealey all had 200+ yard games in 1997. Thank you, Alan Faneca et al. Opening drive of second half of Independence Bowl against ND we ran Mealey up the middle 9 times in a row..all the way down the field (if my memory is correct),

Kevin was hurt early in 97, that's why Cecil had so many opportunities. Then Cecil broke his leg against Vandy just when Kevin was coming back.

To understand how good mealy was you have to appreciate how good Faulk was.

I may be mistaken but I think he set a single game rushing record for LSU and possibly for the Independence Bowl.

Collins would have been one of the best in LSU history had his head been on straight and had he not gotten injured.

Was a very talented player that had a short NFL stint, but he was about as good an RB as Alfred Blue. Guys like Steven Ridley and Jeremy Hill are well beyond what Mealey was

My childhood in Tiger Stadium says GFY. Medley was a straight up 3rd down dawg but was outshined by one of the greatest RBs to ever play the game. If you were to ask me what’s the most memorable name you’d hear the announcer scream out throughout the 25+ years attending games, I’d say Rondell Mealey. He may be one of the most under appreciate Tiger RB of all time, 2nd to D. Davis.

Hate for Facts to ruin a great lie, but Booty was FIRST TEAM ALL SEC ! Yes he was disappointing, because of all the hype, but he choose LSU twice, even when not many great players did.

He had to share Carries with Cecil collins and Kevin Faulk. Talented backfield. He was my favorite of the 3 at the time.

He was a little more injury prone and, somewhat ironically, a harder runner (at times) than stablemate Kevin Faulk.

They formed as good a duo of RBs as we'd had since Dalton Hilliard and Gary James over a decade before. Before injuries took their toll, Mealy was a 6 ypc guy. Of course, that was behind Big Al Faneca, but still. He ended at 4.9 ypc for his career, which is still way up there in school history - a school with a slew of great backs.

Whereas Faulk was the "all purpose" and third down back, particularly his contributions to the passing game and returns, Mealy was the more traditional running back of the pair.

Dang, why do you have to compare a kid from Hahnville to a kid from Destrehan?

I was coming here to say the exact same thing. Absolutely horrible line.
