good for him, he deserves it. So quite complaining and lets hope we get a better fit that can recruite better.

This news ruined my day yesterday. Cooper without question was our best position coach and possibly our best coach on staff. He will be missed
LOL!
Chavis put 13 or 14 DB's into the NFL & coached Berry for the majority of his career, so there's another.
LSU during his time there put 12 DB's into the NFL.
Now look at what he's done since he's been at LSU. Say what you want, but again, Chavis has a heavy impact on Secondary scheme at LSU.
Cooper is a good position coach, but our scheme will be fine. There are other good position coaches out there. Ones who bring way more to the table in regards to recruiting.
Cooper was a good talent evaluator and position coach. You can find those out there.
People talk about the sky falling are honestly uninformed. I don't mean to take shots, but people we will be just fine with Chavis on staff. Brick ain't too bad, either.

Same thing happened with Justin Hunter after DJ McCarthy left. LSU has a real problem in recruiting in my estimation. I couldn't get anyone to call/connect with Justin for 3 weeks. And you know the rest of the story.
I have heard coach Mac continued to recruit Justin after he was taken off the road and out off the job at LSU. Just recruited him to go to another school.
There was good reason LSU backed off of Justin Hunter, Mike Davis (though Davis was really just a situation of Tejas calling him to come home as that's where he always wanted to go), Aikeem Hicks, & DeAngelo Benton. They all had one thing in common:
DJ McCarthy.
You may wanna stop and think about the context of the situation LSU was faced with at that point.
I also heard DJ kept right on calling ole Justin, even after being 86'd from the staff.

Checking in. How many 2013 recruits have we lost to Bama so far?

I can understand leaving for an NFL job but Tampa?
So Tampa doesn't qualify as an NFL job, now?
I think he meant in terms of Tampa is garbage

quote:Cooper's departure is no "small potatoes" loss. His position on the LSU staff is a major part of the overall Tiger team effort. Unless a very good - no, unless a GREAT hire happens, and soon, LSU's stock will continue to be in flux for 2012. You don't just absorb a major missing component like Cooper without something misfiring on defense.
We will make a good hire.

Huge exaggeration. Best of luck to him. Great position coach. But his recruiting was done at camp, not on the road. We can eval in camp with or without him, and if we bring in the cats we are rumored to be hiring (IE-Raymond, Buckles, or Steele-my dream hire), then we'll replace him with young, HUNGRY types that can do battles not only in-state, but go up against the hot tickets like Dameyune Craig over at FSU and WIN.
You're exaggerating bigtime. LSU will be fine.

yeah, coop was probably my fave coach on staff but a lot of ppl are overreacting, understandably.

quote:Not really. Not if you look at *CLM's record of not replacing key positions right away with top quality coaches. Case in point - Malveto the hybrid DC. Another is still in question - Coach Stud as OC. I know LSU will be fine "if" *CLM makes a fast and good hire to replace Cooper. But if not...
You're exaggerating

Congrats to Coop. Well deserved.
I hate it for LSU, as he really is one of the best secondary coaches in the country and a hire I loved from day 1. Go get us someone great Les.

I must say I'm really happy for Cooper. HC didn't work out, so he has earned an NFL gig. Great for him and his family.
