I've really enjoyed this thread. I like stuff like this that makes you remember all the past greats that have played for LSU. We could do one of these with every position on the field and the lists would probably be just as impressive. Amazing how dominant LSU baseball has been for the past 30 years.

it was a new thing at that point. He might have liked the old bats better.

how do you explain the spike in HRs? Do you honestly think the 1995 wasnt juicing, but all of a sudden they started to juice in 1996? i know you arent that dumb.

HR total by team

1995: 81
1996: 131
1997: 188
1998: 157

The new bats you are claiming werent around til 97. So what would you give for the huge increase from 96 to 97? Had to be something, and it wasnt the bats

Serious question, when did we get the trainer who was arrested for giving steroids to high schoolers?

i said the redline bats werent used until 97. There was a transition starting in 1996. I remember because our high school team used the same bats that some of the LSU guys were using, and they weren't the old, raggedy gold Easton's. They were green TPX's

1996 the team used the gold eastons or the blue and red easton that had been around forever.........

There has always been the assumption that Nola was a better defensive shortstop than Bregman. As a freshman this was true, but if you look closer, Bregman is far better. While Nola was a great defensive shortstop, Bregman get to ball that Nola and no other shortstop we have ever had gets to. I haven't looked at the stats, but he has got to have way more chances than any LSU shortstop. He get to several balls a game than no other would have. I would like to see his career chance against all other shortstops.

Nola was reliable and consistent for several years which is a great accomplishment but, he was in no way spectacular. Bregman is flat out spectacular. He makes plays that are uncommon in the majors. As likeable as he was, Nola doesn't belong in the top 5 of all time greatest lsu shortstops.
