Its his fault first and foremost. However, I do agree the Raiders were probably the worst team in the NFL for him to go to. He might have succeeded elsewhere, if developed correctly.
I can agree with that

A lot of it was on JaMarcus, but going to the Raiders was probably the worst place in the league he could go other than maybe the Lions or Browns. That organization used to suck the life out of players. Kerry Collins looked like he was done after he signed there, then went and had a solid stint with the Titans. Randy Moss was a shell himself in Oakland and then went to New England and dominated.
It's possible that if he went to a well run team with structure and accountability then maybe things wouldn't have gone down hill quite as fast. Not saying he would have succeeded but going to the right fit goes a long way. Even well prepared guys that go to a shite situation will struggle because not everyone is on the same page.

The raiders made him 300 lbs?

bullshite.
His work ethic was not the best at LSU. He got by on his ridiculous talent and great arm.
Everyone's better in the NFL and his arm alone wasn't going to get it done.
Raiders gave him a shitton of money (which all 1st picks got back then) and didn't ride his arse to do the work. He's supposed to be a professional, and he didn't act like one.
80% JR, 20% Raiders.

I'd be perfectly fine with you saying once you got paid that you gave up and decided to go through life Fat, Dumb and Stupid. But don't insult our intelligence Mr. Russell by saying you showing up late to practice, fat and out of shape, is not your fault.

So a revisionist history through purple and gold glasses. Why not? The ESPN talking heads argue stupid crap like this all the time. Try Bill Plaske. He's a dumb arse too.

Sorry Jamarcus but you are the captain of your ship.

I wish people would stop trying to ruin jamarcus character. He did bring us to the promise land and was a great player. I am sure the OP is trailer trash nobody. Gtfo

Uh, no.
He was lazy with a strong and highly inaccurate arm.
He could throw it a mile and a half but not hit a barn from 30 ft away.

Jamarcus was a number one pick, a football star and he became rich because of it. He was in the limelight because of that good fortune.
He did not handle his success well and he has earned a reputation for his well-documented exploits. That's his, just as fully as the multi million dollar signing bonus.
Nobody with the Raiders or on this site "ruined his character". His character, for better or worse, was on full public display.

Jamarcus was amazing in college.
He was above average with flashes of greatness.
He didn’t really start to settle as a great QB until late in the 06 season. And then immediately jumped to the pros.

How is that the raiders fault? Jamarcus got paid and didn't look to give a shite anymore and it showed. Idk how you can blame anything on the raiders for drafting him with the first pick when he absolutely was the best player in that draft with huge potential.

Yeah, but he had a lot of amazing moments. Even despite his flaws, his 2006 stats are among the best LSU produced until Burrow. I think Fisher’s tutelage was less than stellar preparation for the pros, and the Fisher-Miles tension probably kept him from reaching his full potential, and there were too many times Russell relied on his talent alone to bail us out. But my god was he talented. The comeback victories we had under him were too many to count.

What stats are you indicating as especially noteworthy?
Posted on 5/6/20 at 6:19 pm to nitwit
His 28 TD’s in a season are tied for 2nd all-time at LSU, his passing yards is tied for 3rd all-time, and his QB rating and completion percentage was impressive. He had bad games against Auburn and UF that year, but he honestly didn’t make that many mistakes. He had less ints than Mauck before him and Flynn after him, and he averaged 9 yards per completion. He had a good season by pretty much all accounts.

How many of those comebacks were required due to his multiple turnovers, spotting the opponent momentum and good field position leading to easy scores?
Posted on 5/7/20 at 7:40 am to Jamarcusforpresident
Raiders were a shite organization and JR was not completely horrible for them, but he also did not help his cause with his attitude and work-outs.
Had he been more motivated instead of trying to get back on pure physical gifts he could have lasted longer, or if he had gone to a better organization with a coach who could have pushed him.

So refusing to even try and learn how to be an NFL QB Had nothing to do with it?
