It's not Jamarcus fault. He should have been the ideal guy to sit for a few years behind a vet to learn before starting in the NFL.

When you make a guy the top pick in the whole draft, he isn't some project. He is expected to play right now.

Ya think the Bengals are going to wait 3 years before they start Burrow?

How many of those comebacks were required due to his multiple turnovers, spotting the opponent momentum and good field position leading to easy scores?

You are acting like he was a turnover machine. He really wasn't, not anymore than Mauck or Flynn, who both had double-digit interceptions the years they were starters, something Russell avoided.

He led the comeback against Oregon St, which was as much do to ineffectual playcalling and the weather as it had anything to do with him. He also was superb his freshman year in the Iowa game, where he spelled Flynn and Randall, going 12/15 and 2 TD's, before we lost the game on a blown coverage. It was really only his first two years he led a lot of comeback victories. Why his 2006 year is ignored is weird to me. But regardless, he was a fun QB to have.

Russell had an ok season, people acting like he flamed out like Akili Smith or something.

I understand people tend to hate JR and he was the #1 pick but he isn't the worst overall pick based on performance.

He seems to be in the discussion of all Worst No. Draft Picks of All Time. The most recent one i saw had him ranked second on that list.
This isn't about whether you liked him at LSU or are glad that he went to LSU. He had some great moments here.
But after being drafted NO. 1 and getting HUGE money, he stunk up the place. It wasn't average. It wasn't so-so. It was bad. He was out of shape, didn't know the play book, held out of training camp, was turning the ball over WAAY too much and wasn't trying.

I don't like Russell since the Bama Boy incident. I always said he wasn't going to be a good pro due to the lack of preparation and performance against good opponents.

He gets a lot of credit for beating Tennessee on the road in 2006, but he had 3 interceptions and a lost fumble in the game. No comeback would have been required.

We lost 23-10 at Florida in another game where he had 3 interceptions and a fumble.

We steamrolled a bunch of nobodies that year where he racked up a bunch of stats, and was drafted #1 on the strength of a Sugar Bowl against a wildly overrated ND team.

There's the issue: assuming he was capable of learning

WOW! He was capable of learning enough to put himself in a position to sign a $62,000,000.00 contract, with $30+ million guaranteed. What is it about you people that you still try to perpetuate that narrative of others' lack of intelligence. I guess you know no other way since it's inbred in you since birth.

We have plenty of information on record about JR to question his intelligence.

As far as your post, I would point out the subtle implications you've just made.

Yeah I'm not saying he was perfect. But he was pretty good. 2005 was a fun year too, with all the comebacks, as was 2004, when we nearly lost to Troy too.

I mean, that's fair, although I thought Bama Boyz was a reference to a record company his uncle supported.

I also think that Russell and Flynn were done a disservice by Miles and Fisher. Fisher was always going to stick with Russell, who he had recruited since he was an 8th grader. But Fisher developed QB's somewhat poorly in my view, and I wish Flynn and Russell got better instruction. On top of that, there was the whole "two playbook" issue between Miles and Fisher, and there was massive disagreements between Searels and Miles, which affected our running game ultimately, as our running game sucked in 2006 and we didn't do very much to help Russell. I mean, Fisher ran the same WR screens every game, but we still weren't all that creative. Who knew that 2006 and 2007 would be highpoints for a decade for our offense though.

That's what sent the NFL into rookie contracts ...that's how big of a failure it was.
LAZY.

Mainly because of all the money he got, frick if Ki-Jana Carter or Courtney Brown had gotten 60 million without ever playing and then had his career we would be talking worse. Every time you see him mentioned about worst picks his contract is mentioned.
