Based on what exactly did any LSU fan think he wasn't a top ten pick?

Based on what people posted in this thread. His NFL draft stock took off after we beat that overrated Notre Dame team

I always thought that Matt Flynn should have played ahead of JR at LSU. Never thought JR was that good. He was a man playing with boys in college mostly. Got by on talent, not cerebral enough to make the right decisions, ala Burrow.

Word was that JR was lazy and didn't work hard. Can't verify that as i wasn't there personally but that is what was said when he was at LSU. Talent can only take you so far. MJ outworked everyone. Why he was the GOAT..

Afraid Jamarcus played a major role in his own demise. Some kids are not ready for the spotlight and the instant wealth. An agent plays a big role also, so some blame has to go there. The Raiders are certainly not without some fault, but not the primary reason for his downfall imo.

You can make a pretty strong argument that he didn't need to get paid in order to be lazy.

Jamarcus was an EXTREMELY talented individual. His arm talent was off the charts. He was huge...a prototypical NFL QB at the time.

It's a shame.

Your troll does raise one legit question:
Is there a program in the NFL where Jamarcus could have succeeded?
First, it seems pretty clear the answer is "no" if he is anywhere in Nos. 1-10 in a draft, and maybe anywhere in the first round. The question becomes a little more interesting if you assume he is a later draft pick, say, rounds 4-6 , where he is not so expensive and expectations are more reasonable.
Even then, Its hard to envision where a program could succeed with as long as he was ballooning to 275 lbs and not working on his game.

Still one of the most bizarre stories. Who does that?
Nothing bizarre about that. I'll tell you who does that, a lying MF'er does that. Lol Someone who's being dishonest and doesn't care about their career.

JaMarcus got that big money and didn't wanna work anymore, sad, and a waste of great ability.

Only a moron would blame the Raiders for Jamarcus failing in the NFL

bullshite. It’s both their faults. He needs to take some responsibility himself. We all know Oakland sucks as a franchise. He did not have to let it ruin his career though

Brilliant theory.

Unfortunately, it isn't true.

I always said JaMarcus should have won a NC while at LSU. He had that great ability and (arm strength off the charts) could make any throw from anywhere. He had 3 really good WR's (Bowe, Doucette, and Davis) to throw to much like Joe Burow had 3 really good WR's (Chase, Jefferson, Marshall). Even in a Les Miles offense he should have still won a NC.

Jamarcus had a powerful arm.
He was not a great football player. He had neither the work ethic, mental acuity nor discipline and devotion to the game to get there. Matt Flynn was a betterfootball player, with much less talent.
Ryan Perilloux probably had more overall talent and was a better overall football player, with many of the same weaknesses suffered by Jamarcus.

It's not Jamarcus fault.

They gave him a blank tape and told him to watch it and tell them what plays he likes best. He returned it and said "I like all of them coach!"

It's 100% JaMarcus' fault and he has admitted as much.

I was just looking at his pro history and what happened after he was released by the Raiders. He said he was trying to clean up his act, but never could. When he showed up for his tryout with the Dolphins, he had managed to get his weight down to a svelte 292 lbs.

TOTAL TRUTH besides not being extremely accurate w the huge arm. As talented as he was, he was more lazy.
His contract and performance altered future contracts for #1 pics and more.

I argued that repeatedly back in the day with Rickdaddy. I'm glad he came to LSU and had a good run. He was lacking in processing defensive schemes, probably because he never studied the plays.

Rickdaddy knew QBs like he knew Coaches. Maybe Rickdaddy had the same degree of perception.

Which proves my point 100%. We knew what Jamarcus was and loved him for it but he's nowhere near a top pick.

This flop is on the raiders. Jamarcus would have been a good 2nd round selection
