We also jumped a Georgia team ranked above us, who was a much hotter team at the time, due to us winning the SECCG and them not winning their division
Who would have thought not winning your division would have an effect on you getting into the national title game?

We were in Atlanta for the SEC Championship game and one of our stops had Ott doing his show. One of the guys in our group asked him if we had a shot to get into the BCS Championship game, Ott said hell no, what a stupid question.

Weird how that year it wasn't about the two best teams getting in.

IN 2003 I was up at 2 AM on the east coast watching Boise beat Hawaii in order to drop USC's SOS.

Need just as much luck or more in 2003.
Notre Dame had to get beat by Syracuse..and it did.
Boise State had to beat Hawaii, which it did.
Both Notre Dame and Hawaii played USC that year. Both teams losing on the final week of the season hurt USC's SOS enough to keep them out of the BCS Championship Game.
"The Tigers, by beating Georgia for the second time in the season, saw their SOS rating jump from 54th to 29th while USC's held at 37th. LSU edged USC by .30 of a percentage point in the SOS ratings, the difference it needed to seal its hold on the No. 2 spot."
It was close.

I remember Kansas and Georgia were ranked ahead of us before the SEC Championship but once we won, neither of them even won their division so we jumped them too. And obviously jumping Virginia Tech since we beat them head to head earlier that season.

quote:Yeah, I remember that, too. I think we were pulling for Hawaii. Can't remember who they were playing, but I think we needed them to win so their opponent's strength of schedule would go down or something.
I seem to remember staying up late watching a Hawaii game. Can't remember if we were pulling for or against hawaii
The BCS sure had a way of keeping everybody interested until the last snap, didn't it?

Pulling for Boise against Hawaii. Hawaii had lost to USC and a UH loss would lessen USC's SOS.

I root for Lesean McCoy to this day, just because of that game!

We can't forget #3 Mizzou (10-1) beating #2 Kansas (11-0) the final week of the regular season. Mizzou took over the #1 spot and proceeded to get crushed by Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship.
USC got the shaft that year. Oklahoma gets blown out in the Big 12 championship game by K-State and still remains #1 in the computers to be #1 in the BCS standings, despite the fact that all the polls had USC #1 and LSU #2.

Poetic justice. Wannstedt left the Dolphins in shambles.....pissed me off as a Dolphin fan......the Dolphins end up hiring Saban........which pissed me off as an LSU alum......
But when Pitt beat WVU,....all was forgiven.

Was in my room in Vegas pacing on the bed. I jumped up and hit my head on the ceiling. Crazy game!

ga still holds a BIG grudge against us for stealing their spot!

It was partly that, but more so UGA got passed by when we jumped Virginia Tech, which was one spot ahead of them.

I also remember watching that game and yelling at the tv. After that, we were a lock according to espn.

We had about 25 people in our group staying at the same hotel in ATL. Our room was the only one that had two TVs. We had the B12 champ game on one and Pitt/WVU on the other. Ordered a good 20 pizzas and finished off the beer from the tailgate watching those games. It was insane.
