Pitching Depth

It appears to me that LSU never has enough pitching depth to carry them through the post season. Yes, Walker's injury was a big factor this year.
However when I look at Florida, I see something I never see at LSU. Their closer was a walk-on. Their second game pitcher against LSU was originally an infielder.
Does Maineiri ever look at infielders or outfielders with big arms as potential backup for our starters.?
Here are a couple of partial descriptions from the LSU website of LSU players who are not pitchers:
*********************************************************
Brennan Breaux - posted a .376 career batting average and a 16-3 career pitching record with a 1.85 ERA over three seasons ... fired three career no-hitters, a St. Thomas More school record ...
Zach Watson ... also pitched as a closer in 2016, recording seven saves and helping West Ouachita reach the state final game ...
******************************************************
Breaux is sitting on the bench wasting his career.
Watson is a strong contributor to LSU's success, but why not consider him as pitching backup for depth.
As for Breaux, I realize the no-hitters were against HS players, however why not at least evaluate his potential as a pitcher.
I am not saying this could be an answer. I am just wondering if Maineiri coaches any way but "by the book". Oregon State's top pitcher is also a top hitter and plays every day he doesn't pitch. Have you ever seen this or something similar under Maineiri? Pitchers pitch and hitters hit. Some of these players are versatile athletes who could possibly contribute in multiple ways.
What does the board think? Am I out in left field, or did I just hit a home run?

Pitching depth was fine.
We scored 4 runs in 2 games.

Ask Watson if he thinks he compares to the rest of the Bullpen?

How do you know Watson and Breaux haven't been considered/evaluated? Do you attend practices? Speak with team members?

Agreed! But were you or were you not on the edge of your seat while Reynolds was in there? Do you not think the players were as well? They needed to not be concerned with the pitching. They needed to focus on their time at the plate.
Poche was not at his best. We were lucky we were not down by 6 after the first two innings. We had nowhere to go beyond Poche.
I felt like the whole team was out of rhythm.

I admittedly have no knowledge of what happens at practice.
I just don't remember anything like that ever happening under CPM.

You realize that the 2 runs Poche gave up in the early innings were unearned? It wasn't Poche, it was the defense behind him. If they had recorded the outs Poche earned, then it would have been a 0-0 game going into the seventh.
Which means...
We would have been leading after we scored our first run. Totally changes the game.

You might consider that...
1. Alden Cartwright never made it back from arm surgery. He was supposed to be able to return for the second half of the season.
2. Doug Norman tore up his arm in the third week of the season and was lost for the year.
3. Cole McKay quit without seeing any action at all this year.
4. Walker got hurt in the middle of the 2nd game in Omaha.
5. Todd Peterson's arm started bothering him right when they would have been in a position to give him a start.
The only team I know of to have that much trouble with pitching injuries in a season this year was Mississippi State, who couldn't make it to Omaha.
I would submit that if Florida had lost five arms, including one of their weekend starters and two of their most experienced guys in the bullpen, we'd have played somebody else in the championship series.

All of that stuff, plus don't forget that Newman was never the same after his injury as well.

Stopped reading after "never" when I recall having 6 CWS titles.

Only one of those titles belongs to Maineiri. None of my comments refer to the Skip Bertman LSU era.
