Is that why we go under screens against a team we knew would live and die by the 3?

Is that why we dont come back to the basketball after the inbounds plays we have break down?

Is that why we have no fluidity on offense?

Is that why we didnt hedge on ball screens tonight?

DING...DING...DING ...we have a winner!!! This falls on coaching even more. The mistakes we make 1 half or 1 game are never corrected. Still are poor fundamentally & that is magnified when tired and/or in close games.

Didn't Jones press a bunch his first year with half of the talent that he has now? What happened with that? I'd give Jones one more year due to Simmons, but I am starting to believe he is in over his head.

Wow! And the NBA has an 80 game schedule.and the game is 8 minutes longer and these are 20 year old kids and they had 5 days to rest...give me a frickin' break!

No need to be pissy....I'm pretty much saying that's not a valid excuse. and if the guys are tired, then the COACH needs to get some other kids in the rotation or find a way to steal some minutes here & there.

Youre right...this team has the best conditioning program in Cbb...having four of your players basically playing an entire game should have no effect on their game..I don't know why other programs don't do this

The coach has proven he can recruit but lacks developing skills & playing schematic tactical basketball.
i pointed this out when he was hired. the reaction was not good. unfortunately, his time at lsu has exactly matched his resume from unt.

Jones has done himself No favors with his bench. Some of the guys have cobwebs on them. In that case, he either needs to coach them better, recruit better athletes, find a system that will work with what he has, or find players that fit his system. If we loose Mickey & Martin...we will be in the exact same position next year. We will have no depth & players will be logging tons of minutes.

We are not on probation and/or short on scholarships! Where are these scholarship players that SHOULD be contributing?!? I see a whole bunch of frosh & soph out there. We are young, so why aren't we getting more guys experience?

Why are we still undermanned?

Hurricane Mike....that is the million dollar question!! If we are bringing in A+ talent but only getting C- results, then that really only points to one person. 3 years is enough time to find some solid role players who can contribute 5-10 minutes a game!

If you actually read the OP, I said that coaching is also a huge reason why we struggle as well...

Probably more like lose them at a mall on a road trip & cant find them in time for the season! I could see Mickey trying his luck but Martin needs more time for sure!

Duke plays with a 8 man rotation, not that much of a difference

Duke has 1 player that averages more than 32mpg.

We have 4.

Hell, we pretty much have 3 guys playing 35mpg. Martin plays 35mpg and Mickey and Hornsby play 34.9mpg. TQ is 32.6mpg.

Ok?

So do you not agree that coaching and having 4 guys being in the top 10 in SEC in minutes played due to lack of depth is what's hurting us?

I mean we've basically regressed as the season goes on... Why is that? Lack of coaching and our top players are exhausted, which kills us late in games. We become lazy, get even more careless with the ball, make more mistakes, and can't hit a shot because the players on the floor are dead.

Dude, it's not because they're worn out

That's 4 guys in the top 10 in minutes played in the SEC. No other team has more than 1.

Our lack of depth is killing our players and they are exhausted. It's a big reason why we've been flat IMO. They are just dog tired and are making more mistakes than we usually do.

That, along with coaching, is really hurting us.
Thank you for starting this thread.

The numbers are worse when you just consider SEC play (non-conference can get skewed due to cupcakes). Hornsby is 1st averaging more than 37.5 mpg, while Mickey and Martin are 2nd and 3rd with 37 minutes. Quarterman is tied for 8th with nearly 34.

You can't just throw 6 guys out there for 99% of the game and expect them to compete with quality players who are subbing in and out.

Before the Miss State game, the announcer said that LSU uses its bench less than all but 2 D-1 schools. That's like 200 teams. And I bet that after this game we are the worst in all of D-1!!!

Now either LSU has the ABSOLUTE worst bench in the history of college basketball or Coach Jones cannot coach a game. He was making progress earlier in the season, but now he has officially regressed. I sincerely hope that he finds a way to turn the corner very very soon. Otherwise I don't think he makes it past next year.
