Yes it reached 24. But ours was only an SEC record. The NCAA record is 34.

re: Official National College Baseball Rankings - 04.30 - BA #4, PG #3, CB #5
great question...

quote:

T Dropping (Baton): With three weekend series remaining in SEC play, how many SEC teams do you see receiving national seeds? Do you think the winners of the UK/UF and LSU/USC series get the nod? Or maybe three of those 4 get a national seed?

Aaron Fitt: I think three of those four feels quite likely to me. The SEC got three national seeds all from one division last year; it is the best conference, it has the most elite teams, and it deserves three national seeds this year.

BTW do any of you see who the voters are in the coaches poll? I've never heard of some of these schools, and others have no business ranking college baseball imho
The USA TODAY/ESPN Board of Coaches is made up of 31 coaches at Division I institutions. All are members of the American Baseball Coaches Association. The board for the 2012 season:
Terry Alexander, Jacksonville;
John Anderson, Minnesota;
Ed Blankmeyer, St. John’s;
Rob Cooper, Wright State;
Sherman Corbett, Texas-San Antonio;
Tim Corbin, Vanderbilt;
Barry Davis, Rider;
Greg DiCenzo, Holy Cross;
Mike Gaski, UNC-Greensboro;
Nino Giarratano, San Francisco;
Gary Gilmore, Coastal Carolina;
Keith Guttin, Missouri State;
Danny Hall, Georgia Tech;
Carlton Hardy, Savannah State;
Donny Harrel, Seattle University;
Loren Hibbs, Charlotte;
Charlie Hickey, Central Connecticut State;
George Horton, Oregon;
Steve Jaksa, Central Michigan;
Omar Johnson, Jackson State;
Rick Jones, Tulane;
John Musachio, Oakland (Mich.);
Bobby Pierce, Troy;
Gary Powers, Nevada;
Mark Scalf, UNC-Wilmington;
Jim Schlossnagle, TCU;
Jim Schmitz, Eastern Illinois;
Matt Senk, Stony Brook;
Doug Smith, UC-Riverside;
Steve Smith, Baylor;
Bob Whalen, Dartmouth.

Well they obviously have piss poor team, thus, giving them more time to evaluate rankings...? I don't know. I've never even heard of some of those programs. The coaches poll is always the worst IMO.

LSU should NEVER be referred to as Louisiana State, LSU–Baton Rouge, L.S.U., or other aliases different from those stated above.

frick those guys, if it's part of the name and it communicates, I'll use it.

I'm not in the habit of being told what to do and what not to do by the State.

It's a national sport, bro.

And fwiw, UTSA, UNC-Greensboro, Missouri State, UNC-Charlotte, UNC-Wilmington, SUNY-Stony Brook, & UC-Riverside, have all been known to have pretty solid baseball teams in recent years.

It's not as bad as you think it is. There are 31 conferences that play D1 baseball, and the politics of the NCAA demands a decent amount of representation on various associations and committees.

Also, the Coaches' poll is often better than some of the other polls, especially Baseball America's poll, which is horse shite.

What about this one:
quote:

Matt (OKC): Hey Aaron the Top 25 Chat is the one thing that gets me through my Monday work days! A&M's weekend starters all looked like Friday night guys this past series vs. texas. How do you see the combo of Wacha, Stripling, and Pineda playing out the rest of the season and are the Aggies ready to make a run at a National Championship?

quote:

Aaron Fitt: Glad to give your Mondays a boost, Matt! I continue to believe that A&M and LSU have the nation's best weekend rotations, and today I'd probably give the Aggies a slight edge. Pineda isn't overpowering, but he has very good feel for pitching for a freshman, and as he showed Sunday, he is an excellent Sunday guy. Wacha and Stripling are warriors, of course, with very good stuff. I do have the Aggies as one of about 10 teams I could see winning the national title (and I don't think any of those 10 has separated itself as a clear-cut favorite).

Did you see the points? Closest top 5 I have ever seen. LSU is 4 pts from being #1 in that poll with each team within a point of the other.

The whole voting scale in college baseball is a little off.

Considering there are next to ZERO nationally telivised games i don't see how any of these coaches are capable of making an educated prediction. This has got to be why there are so many different polls, unlike football where you can't help but see the top 25 teams in the country play at least a few times throughout the year.
