re: LSU SEC NETWORK TAKE OVER: what game are you most looking forward to rewatch - pngtiger
Was looking forward to the Oregon game as well as the 1pm on schedule. But screw that now. 30 sec to 1 minute of game (and mostly inconsequential crap, while totally glossing over a scoring drive), compared to 3 minutes of commercials. I'm done watching ...

re: Any blue states on the verge of turning purple? - pngtiger
I know this is anecdotal, but out of all the states I've lived in, Ga was the most conservative and the most vocal about their values. I'm pretty conservative, leaning libertarian, and some of the stuff they said made me blush. The only way the state goes blue is enough transplants in Atlanta. Oh, a...

re: National Black Panther group looking to march with arms in Big Mamou Louisiana - pngtiger
Last weekend I was talking to one of the local cops, and he brought up a planned protest like this (with open carry). He said the law allows open carry, but it does not allow open carry in large groups. I don't know how true this is, or even if it's true in Louisiana (as this was in Alabama). ...

re: It is July 1st. Don't go to the hospital. - pngtiger
Nurse, damn you for posting those things! Time lost. Our new interns have been good so far, though not expecting much. They're overwhelmed, but we had a busy day so far. Think a gang war is starting back up. I'm not happy with some of the upper levels on the team. Orders not being placed. has...

re: you get an unexpected package in the mail - pngtiger
Had a couple I knew when I was in residency, one was OB the other family practice. Obviously they weren't home much. One day they get home and there's a box, they bring it in but don't open. Later that night the dogs start going crazy, they look outside and see people creeping on the house, then hea...

re: Raffle House controversy in St. Tammany. - pngtiger
How do you figure the taxes on the house?
typically with a cash prize over a certain amount (depends on state, but typically over $5,000) at least 25% is withheld for taxes (lower value prizes need to still be claimed on taxes but are not withheld). For a prize like a car or hous...

re: Raffle House controversy in St. Tammany. - pngtiger
What happened the other years? Agree that the father shouldn't have entered, but the money usually goes to charity. Honestly it's all a giant sham. The guy that built my house does a St Jude home every few years. Just so happens that the year after I move in, it's the one across the street from m...

re: Time killer thread: LSU baseball's best non-confernce rivalries - pngtiger
I was very surprised about Houston and USA too. I remember USA coming to the Box during the old regionals. They were always tough. I also remember Rice, CSF, and USC coming to the Box during those regionals. Those were some good games. I know there was a thread on this earlier this week, but I liked...

re: Time killer thread: LSU baseball's best non-confernce rivalries - pngtiger
Gotta include USC and LB St, and possibly Wichita St if going that far back. BTW, all time records (does not include 2016) (notable OOC): Team GP Record Arizona St 8 6-1-1 Baylor 12 9-3 CS fullerton 11 7-4 Georgia Tech 3 3-0 Houston 45 20-25 ...

re: What are your thoughts on mission trips? - pngtiger
I understand some of the points, especially medical vs non-medical. Yes, some of it is self-serving, but it does give you perspective to how great we have things here. I did a medical mission trip a year ago in South America. Was only a week, but it was a hard week. I learned a lot and definitely...

re: How bout a History buff thread... invention and money disconnect - pngtiger
The Wright brothers were their own enemy though. Glenn Curtiss came along and improved on their invention and patented his stuff. The Wright's, instead of continuing to innovate and improve on their idea, chose to fight legal battles against Curtiss. All of which they lost. They spent everything on ...

re: Study - Electric Cars Produce More Pollution Than Fossil Fuel-Burning Cars - pngtiger
Well that makes sense now, LHV. Though still, at 50% efficiency it's still better than a car engine. I thought the loss via transmission would be more. Taking a max of 60% and 8% loss, it'll be knocked down to 55%' which is still great. Nah, like you, I have minimal knowledge of the industry...

re: Study - Electric Cars Produce More Pollution Than Fossil Fuel-Burning Cars - pngtiger
Found this: [link=(https://www.nema.org/Products/Documents/TDEnergyEff.pdf)]LINK[/link] Says 6-8% lost in transmission. Also, it mentions 60% efficiency is combined cycle coal and natural gas, but no facts to back it up. So, maybe there are some with 60%. Wonder how many are out there though. ...

re: Study - Electric Cars Produce More Pollution Than Fossil Fuel-Burning Cars - pngtiger
Still don't see where they got 60%, though I did a rapid read of the paper so may have missed it. It's pointing to ways to improve efficiency to get the output that Japan and Germany has, but even then it's not 60%. Their coal plants are at 38% compared to 31-33% for the US. The best reported curren...

re: Study - Electric Cars Produce More Pollution Than Fossil Fuel-Burning Cars - pngtiger
I don't know where they got that 60% from. They are getting about 60% in combined cycle plants, but that's a relatively new thing. Straight natural gas is around 43% efficiency, not 60% And like I said early, there is still significant loss in the transmission of that power, which that person did...

re: Study - Electric Cars Produce More Pollution Than Fossil Fuel-Burning Cars - pngtiger
Did they factor in the pollution needed to charge the battery? Because it's very inefficient. Considering the efficiency of most power plants is 31-34% (coal, oil, nuclear), with the best fossil fuel (natural gas) at about 43%, then add in the losses in transmission, etc., the efficiency approaches ...

re: Non OT Ballers, get your overtime or a pay raise - pngtiger
Your great explain, Nick Hanauer, and his talk is great and all, but he doesn't practice what he preaches. A supervisor makes $10.25 an hour, forklift operator $30k/year, I haven't seen a non administrator position paying more than $42k/year. And that's his family's business, one that generates $500...
