Lets face it,our def is not very good. The only way we win the big games this year is out score the other team.I'm sure we will hear from LM that they will fix it.I'm SURE WE WILL HEAR THAT CRAP EVERY week.Def just sucks bottom line

Don't think its a wash... we still could go 12-1 powerful off...our Teams have always been a 2 loss are more except by the grace of the football gods we went 13-0 and had our asses handed to us in the nc that one loss should count as 5 losses....Bend don't Break also cost Tenn the big ones!

I knew the D was going to give up 40+. You could see this coming in 2nd half of the Auburn game. Look - we lost 3 DL, the MLB, and 2 DBs to the NFL. Only one of those guys was a senior. You had to know that we were going to be young and inconsistent on D this year - I just didn't think it would be this bad. We looked poorly coached.

My take on it.

The DL is not as capable as last year. I thought we would do a little better against the run for GA, but our line is slow and doesn't react well. We got knocked off the line a lot. Maybe this can get better, I don't know.

Linebackers? Slow reaction to what's going on. They get bottled up easily.

The DBs seem to have adequate speed to keep up with opposing receivers. Biggest problem is blown coverages due to confusion. It's not that they don't have the physical ability, it's just that they don't read what's going on. Also, at least two of the passing touchdowns yesterday could have been avoided if they'd just turned around and played the ball. How can you defend a pass if you aren't looking for the ball?

Lastly, the turnover by OB hurt. We had just stopped GA cold and then we turn it over deep.

If only one of those TD passes had been stopped, or Beckham doesn't fumble the punt, this game is likely a win.

I have to agree with anyone else who said it was blown coverage, I think we gave up 14-21 points just off of missed assignments. Thats the hardest part of this loss, was the two TDs given up by Mills and Euegene when they dropped out of deep cover to get the underneath route. I also agree with Deke, that some of these guys messing up are Jr's and some have been in the system a few years.
That said if Ron Cooper was let go this season, as it is very likely that whole staff at tampa will be sent packing, so would you want him back?

The poor defense in not suprising at all. Many predicted this after last season. It is a direct product of the losses on the defense of underclassman to the NFL. The defense clearly was not ready to replace all of those players at once.

Absolutely correct. It will not get better. They physically get beat at the point of attack.

With the exception of Kwon, our linebackers do not make plays either against the run or in coverage. They are consistently bad.

None of our DBs can play man. They consistently give up big plays. Poor ball skills. They just don't make plays either because of bad reads or confusion. Regardless, they can't cover better WRs. White and Robinson will be improvements but they are only true freshmen. They are two years away. We will continue to get torched by good QBs.

The fumbled punt return after the defense finally stepped up was devastating. Who knows how the game would have turned out. I think it resulted in a 14 point swing.

LC

I agree. I do not know if LC would have made a difference but he could not be any worse than what we have now.

We're going to have a hard time beating Bama and the Aggies with this defense. Your offense can't always bail you out. Heck, even Arky might be a struggle for us.

I just believe its fricking retarded to spotlight him out when all 11 aren't very good.

Welter was the least of the defensive problems yesterday- was he responsible for the lack of a rush against Murry? Was he responsible for the DB's being out of position on several pass plays? The whole D should be called out- no leadership either...

I agree. Off with their heads, Revoke all of their schollys. Fire all the defensive coaches and a trainer or two just to satisfy my bloodlust.

They didn't do anything good. Nada in the entire game. What a freaking waste of scholarships and humanity as well. Dump them all and just give offensive scholarships. THEY looked decent. Not rantard level good mind you, but at least decent.

That piss poor performance was right on par, I didn't expect a damn thing different and don't expect to see a gret deal of improvement over the remaining games. I hope I'm wrong and gladly eat as much crow as humanly possible if I am.

The defense is playing exactly like what they are...a bunch of 3 star recruits. Mills, Collins, Martin, Welter, and Barrow. All of em. The talent level is just way below what we're used to.

I say give everyone a shot on D. Rip the redshirts off of anyone that's not injured and let's see who wants it the most. This is the time to do it.

Yep, season is almost half over and the meat of the schedule is still to come. It isn't going to get better, just hope the offense plays at a high level to carry the team.

I am not sure if the MalVeto days were ever that
The "Mallveto Monster" Co-DC experiment was a disaster that wrecked havoc, but Mallory and Peveto were decent position coaches before the "Monster" was born. I'd give anything to have Mallory back there coaching DB's again. At least they'd be getting some competent technical coaching that's sorely lacking right now. (And was last season as well) Go back and check out the defensive stats and see how many passing yards we gave up last season. Nothing has been fixed. It's just 2013 instead of 2012.
