re: New Unis with white jersey instead of purple

I don't understand why people got upset. It isn't like we rolled out some chrome helmets, black jerseys and neon pants. This is the same uniform template using our same colors. Players will ask for all white now knowing that the pants and helmets are available.

Me neither. I don't like the piss yellow pants. Screw tradition. We sucked before 2000. Let's mix it up. White looked great.

Only issue with this is the non matching striping. Either have to have all three sets be like the shoulders, or all like the pants.
Otherwise, yes...this is a great AND very traditional LSU uniform. There is nothing here that screams trying too hard like Oregon and the rest of the XFL type uniforms we see around now.
This is just our normal design using a full compliment of colors.
That being said, I'm not a fan of our purple jersey. I like the idea of a purple jersey, but the stripes don't work...the white and gold together like that don;t stand apart enough so you lose them and it's muddy...especially on the dark purple jersey.
Not sure how to address that...maybe do exactly what we've done for the white pants above and have the outer stripe be gold, a thin inner stripe be white and then the middle stripe be purple?
Did this in a hurry just to see it...

I completely agree. Because the colors are both very light against the dark purple. they just blend together. The white jerseys work so well because the colors essentially go light(white), dark (purple), light (gold). So, the contrast works. I'm not sure there is anything we can do with the purple jerseys just because of our history with them.

Gold helmets with white tops and bottoms would look sweet.
also would have looked better with the uni's we wore Saturday. While it looked good it would have popped more with the gold helmets.
LOt of good suggestions in this thread. I think we should do this much more often. Just as long as we keep with the traditional colors and patterns but just do a little more mix n matching combinations. Even the traditionalist shouldn't have a problem with it other than the over 60 crowd who strictly just want the gold, white, gold uniforms we almost always wear.

the stripes on the gold pants don't match either fwiw. it's not as noticeable but it's still different

That is something that has bothered me for a while. I am not completely sure, but I think this isn't the way our pants striping has always looked.
Hard to tell here, but it looks like there is no gold between the purple and white here.

This all day.
People forget when Saban was here, this is why we started wearing the purples again at home for OOC games that were not the first game of the year. Because he was open about the fact that recruits were straight up telling him they were wary of wearing the same uniform their entire career. Does that seem like a silly thing to worry about? Sure! It doesn't make it not an actual factor, and if fans are under the impression recruits have and will not chose a school based on even worse things than that, their fooling themselves.
Our uniforms have changed any number of times since Paul Dietzel scrapped the uniform worn by greats like Y.A Tittle and Jimmy Taylor...let's stop pretending it's been some unaltered, unchanging beacon of college football since the dawn of time. It hasn't. One either does not know their own history, or they're being intellectually dishonest.
So long as we keep the current colors (if we're not going to use old gold anymore) and keep the UCLA stripes, I'm fine with trying different combinations if it makes players happy, fans interested and NIKE out of the locker room pushing idiotic designs.

it's not. think it started when we switched to Nike in the 90s

This is a very smart look. As long as they keep stripes I'm all in.

Right...and that's one of those changes I mean when I say the uniform has changed over time. That's one I don't like, for the reason I gave. Either or, not both.
Far as I can tell, that's a 90's addition...Kevin Faulk had them against UF in '97...
Tommy Hodson did not...matching stripes for the helmet and pants.

They should wear the south carolina - combo again this year. Love the purple jerseys.

This guy gets it...
This is one of those changes that I think most fans never even noticed, so they act like the uniform's been static forever.

yeah, i'm kind of a nerd like that. i also have never understood why they use that stripe on the white helmet when they don't on the gold helmet. they didn't in the auburn game in 2011 but did in the indy bowl in 1997 and against tulane in 2007. the helmets against auburn are what the white helmets should look like when worn, except with matching gold to our regular uniform

All that.
All of these things can be done, so long as there is someone in charge that ensures that A) we only use our actual colors (I'm looking at you grey & black) B) we keep the UCLA stripes and C) we keep them consistent on all parts...either three bold stripes or 5 with varying widths.
If they'd do this and stick with it, we could have multiple variations, all that look like LSU...
I am a traditionalist. This would be tradition.

I agree I'd much rather these be our home jerseys. It's amazing how many people complain about them and saying that they rather see the traditional ones. To me it's boring after a while seeing the same 2 uniform combinations. For the big games I wouldn't mind seeing something like the pro combat ones we had when we played Auburn in 2011.
