Found it - Looks like it does apply to LSU (and many other places), but only for two years.

These two bulletins together basically show that most admission events are taxable (non-profits still look to be excluded in some respects, but not in others).

Local School Events

Taxability of Admissions to Places of Amusement,
Athletic Entertainment, and Recreational Events

ETA: Why am I doing all the work for the shitty OP?

1. What is the change in the law regarding admissions to school athletic/entertainment events and the sales of food and tangible personal property at these events? Previously, there was a sales tax exclusion from state sales tax for admissions to amusement events, athletic entertainment events, and recreational events of schools, colleges, and universities. The new law imposes state sales tax on these events of schools, colleges, and universities at the following rates: Period State Sales Tax Rates 4/1/2016-6/30/2016 5% 7/1/2016-6/30/2018 3% 7/1/2018-3/31/2019 0% State sales tax should be charged upon the sales of concessions and other items of tangible personal property as well.

So now the IRS is going to potentially investigate the taxes paid by volunteer organizations like you local playground booster club?

IF this law has that kind of reach, that is dumb.

The bottom line is that governments need to understand that making more is not always the best way to proceed. Sometimes spending less is a better way.

The IRS huh? Nothing like a well-informed populace.

s a democrat. All they know is to raise taxes and increase power/control. He has to raise money to support his worthless voter base.

As a registered Republican, I'm sick of hearing this type of absolute crap from both sides. It is toxic, and alienates the other side as the enemy instead of bringing both sides to the table for collaboration.

Jindal, who I voted for, crushed LSU and this state while trying to run for President the last 7.5 years. Nothing positive is going to get done with your line of thinking.

Take money from the people so he can redistribute, just like a Democrat, thinks he can spend my money better than I can...

This is a stupid post for two reasons.

First, sales taxes affect the poor more significantly than the rich. So, your "redistribution of wealth" theory doesn't make sense.

Second, the state is in pretty dire financial straits. Either they could cut tax breaks to businesses, or they could raise taxes. Trust me when I say that oil companies have more pull in the legislature than higher ed institutions.

I moved to Texas about 2 years ago.

Doesn't change anything about what I said. He's the governor for the next 4 years, and this is one of the most difficult times in the state's history. I'd say the exact same thing if Vitter had one.

To those who don't understand sales tax collection. Having a "clean" penny is a good thing. Clean meaning it is collected in transactions without exemption. The problem is the percentage. The state is in a really bad spot so they raised the percentage as well. It's good tax policy to not have thousands of exemptions, but we need to lower the rate. Our state is so far behind over states in terms of overall tax policy. We desperately need to broaden the base and lower the rate across the board...sales, income, property etc.

What else can he do?

Apparently there is not a single penny that can be cut from our budget.

How can anyone say this as millions are being cut as the tax increases from this session weren't enough to cover the gap.

Citizens can never give enough money to the government. Zero budgeting would help but only when politicians want to control spending.
Reduce entitlements programs maybe state could find money for road maintenance.

Jester, there was a question mark at the end of that grouping of words. That makes a question.

Relax, buddy. I do not have time for some silly back and forth. Life is good.

The question mark doesn't change the fact that you brought up a federal agency when discussing a state matter.

Like TOPS? Yep

Also, compare state "entitlement programs" to the missed revenue caused by corporate tax breaks and credits. Entitlements aren't the problem these days.
