LSU's offense had a weakness against teams with a good front 7. That weakness became worse due to a couple of injuries.

We scored 34+ points in 6 of our first 7 games this season and then had a really, really bad stretch of games against the best defensive fronts we faced all season wihtout Dillon Gordon, JD Moore, and Jerald Hawkins due to injuries.

We took some time, got healthy, and then hung 56 on an admittedly terrible defense.

And just so you know, in the games where we got CRUSHED, our defense gave up over 30 ppg. Could be.... that we didn't have enough depth to compete against those teams. That sort of things tends to happen when your team is basically an NFL pipeline.

Not thrilled would be the understatement of the year.

I have always liked LSU.

Why you gotta do this to us?

Remember 2013 when we had a loaded roster on offense and still lost 3 games, and we always blamed the defense? still not as bad as this year.

What makes this worse is the SEC was a better conference in 2013 and there were a lot more quality quarterbacks then as opposed to now. Makes Steele's failings that much more pathetic.

Malveto at least had the excuse the team had serious lack of talent due to the 2005 class on limited scholarships and the absolute bust 2007 class they had. Or maybe it was 2006 I can't remember.

Anyways, Steele was loaded with talent this year and in several areas the defense was worse than Malveto and not far behind in others. 9 straight games of 20 points or more. Turrible. We played some absolutely shitty QBs in that period too.

Can't wait to see LSU put 40 on Auburn next year. They're going to be awful on defense.

Look at that 11' defense though! Talk about a wasted year.

2011 was one of the greatest teams to ever play. It was a hell of a ride, and a lot of fun. I'll never call that a wasted year.

I'm as pissed as anybody about the January performance, but don't let that take away what we did that year.

You're right.
The problem's with the defense - not the offense or "teams".
Dumb…

It was a mutual decision and the "match his salary" BS was to pump up a higher offer by Auburn. He was leaving to join his brother regardless. He is actually a better fit with Malzahn's scheme than ours.

what a misleading stat. we got CRUSHED in 3 straight games, didn't even compete for our division title and this stat says we were the 16th best offense in the country?
Gotta love those OOC cream puffs.

No way. That would mean Miles made a bad choice. He'd never admit it. Anyway, I think Steele did a pretty good job this season.

Because no fricking way the problem could be Miles' antiquated offense.

Les just put another offense that broke records on the field. I don't think this was mutual though, think it has more to do with they were all about to be fired a month ago.

Are there people in this thread saying the defense was the problem this year?

Those offensive and defensive stats DO mean something. EVERY team plays rent-a-wins and the stats reflect that. Critics were quick to use those stats last season to rightfully criticize our offense.

In 2015, our offense was better and our defense was worse. I am glad Kevin Steele is gone.

LSU tried to keep Steele by offering him more money.
