They were denied because LSU had the same number of losses but a significantly better computer score AND won the conference. The pollsters moved us ahead of UGA. This scenario would involve the SEC champ having more losses than LSU, and most likely having lost to LSU (Florida). Matt just meant there is nothing in the BCS bylaws that says you must win your conference. Just have to be 1 or 2

I believe LSU will play in the Sugar Bowl...

My scenario.
1. Bama beats Auburn.
2. Auburn beats Flordia and goes to the Sugar Bowl.
3. LSU wins out and is an at large BCS bowl.
Might be wishful thinking, but it's a nice place
to be considering the offensive struggles.

TCU deserves their standing, IMO.

Yep...tcu's top 6 games this year:
Utah, Oregon St, Airforce, Baylor, San diego st., brigham young, add in tenn tech and new mexico for good measure.

LSU's top 6 games would be: Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, North Carolina, West Virginia.......and then add in Miss State and Ole Miss in for good measure....

I see a real mess this year with at least 4 teams looking in....that why I think the case for letting the current BCS formula decide the top 8 teams and then play it out from there. That way its decided where it should be..ON THE FIELD!!!!

That still wouldn't do anything, but OK.

A top 8 playoff allows a team to schedule cupcakes and still make it.

I like top4 with conference championship prereq

This is the nightmare scenario. 9-3 Florida upsets Auburn and #4 ranked, 11-1 LSU heads back to the fricking Cap One Bowl again

Ok, no. There's some serious error in logic right here. If LSU wins out, they go to a BCS bowl and their is no other possible scenerio if the SEC sends two schools to BCS bowls an 11-1 LSU would go. A two or three loss east team would not and I repeat WOULD NOT jump LSU for a BCS bowl bid. Also, A two loss Bama team would not go ahead of a 1 loss LSU just because they upset auburn with a head to head loss versus lsu and the hit to the coaches poll ranking they just took from losing to LSU. They are too far behind without LSU needing to lose a game now as well.

And as far as you not having to win your conference to go to a bcs championship. That's happend what? one year? 2003? It resulted in the media crowning a team who didn't even show up to the bcs title game... i doubt you ever see that scenerio again.

Close enough. BCSCG in New Orleans = Sugar Bowl for me.

Don't need to jump us in rankings. The East team is automatic into the Sugar if they win the SECCG. The at large argument would be between Auburn and LSU.

If undefeated Auburn loses SECCG then its likely LSU doesn't get BCS bid.

if LSU stays as 11-1 (#5 in the BCS) then they will a BCS bid because Auburn will fall down if they lose in the SECCG IMO

I hear you about not winning one's conference, Matt, but could you provide a reference. I remember a few years back when UGA made a claim to be in the BCSCG but were denied because they had not won the SEC. BTW this was after OU got into the game after losing its Big XII CG.

Can you elaborate?

They were denied because LSU got voted no. 2 in the BCS, not because they didn't win the SEC.

Nebraska 2001 didn't even win their division. They still played in the NC game

if yall look at the top 10
we'll move up to #3-4 if we wins against Arkansas (currently #14) but they will move up if they wins against (#20 Miss State). Boise will fall down if they dont have enough computer votes. Wis, Neb, Stanford, and Michigan State (6-10) cant get past us because they dont have a ranked opponent left. Ohio State still have Iowa (#13) left

LSU would in the computers, not in the human polls.

OU 2003 and Nebraska 2001 agree with the theory though. Georgia 07 was ranked below us and had an equal number of losses. It can go both ways, but the point is on two occasions a team has failed to win its conference and still played for the title. And one of those times (2001) that team didn't even win their division. It can happen and has happened before

I hate when people bring this up. Georgia wasn't as good as LSU. Period. When you put up LSU versus UGA it was a no brainer. LSU had a better record, tougher schedule, better wins, better losses, better margin of victory, better computer score, etc.

It doesn't help you to lose the conference but if their aren't viable options it will happen. Nebraska went in 2001, OU in 2003, and UM would have gone in 2006 had Florida lost the SECCG.
