Let me get this up front...
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WIN YOUR CONFERENCE TO GO TO THE BCS CG
IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE FOR LSU TO PASS UNDEFEATED TCU WITHOUT WINNING THE SEC
But we have 2 chances to make the NC game:
1. AU loses to UGA and Bama and LSU wins the SECCG. It would be close between LSU and TCU at that point. Losses to Boise for example would help.
2. AU beats UGA and we don't play in the SECCG. We would need at least 3 of the following 4 to happen:
a) Oregon loses
b) TCU loses
c) AU loses to Bama and SECCG
d) Boise loses or Big12 champ (e.g. NU) finishes with 2 losses
Personally, I think Boise has to lose AND the Big 12 champ has to finish with 2 losses. We can play AU if Oregon, TCU, Boise, and Big12 champ lose.
Note that slackster had a long breakdown of NC possibilities last week: Slackster's breakdown
================== BCS BOWL=======================
11-1 should be slam dunk as far as making a BCS bowl. In fact, they may finish top 4 making them an automatic qualifier. But one caveat...if AU loses in the SECCG to finish 12-1, they could push LSU out.
Even at 10-2 LSU would be in good shape. If Bama finishes 10-2 also or the East team upset AU, LSU could be left in the cold. Don't assume that the BCS takes LSU over Bama. I think it is too early to talk about which bowl though.

I really appreciate your anaylis of this subject each week. Nice work!

Why wouldn't a one loss LSU team jump TCU and Boise, when everyone said that a one loss Bama team would?
Also, Nebraska can jump LSU even if LSU wins out, including a win at highly ranked Arkansas?? That would be crazy.
Should be fun to watch it unfold. I love the BCS.

This is the nightmare scenario. 9-3 Florida upsets Auburn and #4 ranked, 11-1 LSU heads back to the fricking Cap One Bowl again.

In theory, a one loss bama would've beaten LSU, Auburn and won the SEC.. A one loss LSU probably won't even win the SEC west.. That's why.

Great work, lsumatt...as usual. Thanks!!

I am not positive Bama would have knocked out TCU either, but they had an earlier loss and have had less close games. I have a feeling that LSU/Tenn final play gets shown over and over again on ESPN the last day. Some voters may penalize LSU for "near losses" when think hard and long about LSU vs. TCU on that last ballot.

All we can do now is win out and see what happens. As always, thanks for the analysis.

Nebraska looks like they are headed for a rematch with Oklahoma State (controls the South) and that was a shootout last time, and this weekend we saw how shaky they are when Martinez isn't 100%.
Right now LSU needs to worry about Ole Miss and Arky, and let the chips fall where they will.

Because LSU is yet to command the repect in the human poll that Bama has received so far.

I understand what you're saying, but I don't understand how bama losing to SC by 2 scores is better than LSU losing at Auburn by one score. Crazy stuff.

No shite!! In the Miami Herald today, the article about the LSU/Alabama game concluded with the all the lucky scenarios that BAMA needed to make it back to the NC game.

Won't happen. Boise will win out because they play no one until the thorough beatdown waiting for them in whatever BCS bowl. TCU deserves their standing, IMO.

Yes, because Boise has a history of getting stomped in BCS bowls. Idiot

shouldn't you be on the bridge by now?

Because they blew out an overrated Utah team? Who else has TCU beaten?
EDIT: I wonder how many losses TCU would have if they played UNC, WVU, Miss St, Florida, Auburn, Bama, Arkansas
