Correct, I am a bandwagon LSU baseball fan. I hate the sport, but will watch LSU play in the post season.

Thank god we don't have a MLB team

Then why do you even waste time and effort posting in a baseball thread?

Troll?

I've never posted in a basketball thread.
I dislike the game, so I keep my opinions out it.

In my opinion the bats used circa 2009 were just fine. The lineup we had that year was a perfect blend of precision and power. Kept the game "lively".

Not sure why they changed to these, but my guess is someone in NCAA had a friend in a bat making company. Just how it goes...

Oh well, I love good pitching too.

I wouldn't surprise me if the NCAA vacated the CWS titles during that era at some point in the distant future. And honestly, I wouldn't blame them. Wouldn't like it but I'd understand.

Are you on drugs?

HR numbers will increase. Many of these balls that are smoked but die at the warning track will be gone. Batters will again be rewarded for a great swing.

That said, it will never be like gorilla ball again so it's good that LSU seems to be making the adjustment to the current game and getting back to form.

I heard, and admittedly haven't taken the time to verify, that in three years no one has hit a ball out of the stadium between left center and right center fields. That includes players and opposing players on the Omaha minor league team playing there.

This is pretty obvious, since the Storm Chasers don't play there.

That's the reason I put in the disclaimer. Heard the comment on a radio program just this week and the individual speaking claimed both the minor league team and Creighton University were using the ballpark.

Was his remark about no home runs from left center to right center accurate?

Creighton plays there, but the minor league team doesn't.

Thanks for the clarification. The point I found interesting was the claim no one, to date, had hit a ball out of the park between left center and right center. Do you know if that's a fact?

No, I don't. But if whomever claimed it said the minor league team played there, I would question their facts.

I am glad we are trying a new ball next season, but I would not want to return to what we had during our Geauxrilla ball days. I like great defense first and foremost with great pitching coming in second.

Not a fan of the 29-13 regional championship game days, either .. The first 1998 LSU-USC CWS game got the ball rolling in this direction ..

I know it affects drag, thats the whole point of switching to it.

Im saying the ball is not coming out of a pitchers hand any faster because of less drag.

Pitches will have less movement. Straight fastballs are always faster than ones that move. A guy today flirting with 90 will easily get 1-2mph more on his fastball.

The Big 10 commissioner fought hard for the new bats. He also fought to have the season start later and for the ridiculous scholarship restrictions on college baseball. He thinks this will help the Big 10 gain parity with the southern and western conferences.

And that is the exact reason the NCAA has changed the bats (time and time again). Not for the safety of the infield, like they would like you to believe, but because they wanted to bring the powerhouse teams/conferences down to the level of others, thereby making the smaller clubs "more competitive," thereby increasing their attendance and advert numbers, thereby bringing more money to the NCAA and the affiliates.

The balls will make a difference but I think we are seeing the game change players are learning to hit with these bats and making the adjustments. It was a drastic change early on but now you are seeing college freshmen that used the bbcor bats also the whole time they were in high school and they do seem much more comfortable hitting with these bats.

And that doesn't change the fact that these bats suck and were an over reaction by the NCAA.

The way LSU has been hitting during the recent streak are making games much more enjoyable to watch. Homers are great, but not 6-7 a game.

The new balls I think will raise team BA maybe 10-20 points, which would be fine for me.
