Miles doesn't have time for this. He has a NC to prepare for.

What the hell does any of this crap matter at this point? Answer: It doesn't, so bringing it up is just stupid.

Truthfully it is pretty interesting.....

apparently interesting enough to put in a book so obviously people want to know what happened.

All in all, I'm glad with the way things worked out. We have a amped up rivalry with Alabama, have a coach that can recruit top notch players and coaches, and a guy that can put up with the 93,000 coaches in the stand that question his every move each game.
To quote Randy Newman: "He may be a fool but he's our fool", and I'm damn proud of that!

I question the timing as well

I just saw the article on Yahoo and was surprised nobody else had posted it yet.

Saban making the "I'm not going to be the coach at Alabama" gaffe, because he thought he was coming back to LSU, and was negotiating with Bama to have a number for LSU to match.

Saban was already the coach at Bama when all of this went down, but nice try though.

So some of you think that Herbie put his reputation on the line and Miles called a press conference before the SEC title game for the hell of it, and there was no interest from Michigan?

Seems like their was mutual interest between Miles and Michigan and Michigan botched the deal.

Talk to some of the boosters. They'll tell you skip was in a hanger at the BR airport with Saban negotiating for him to come back.

Probably a 'silent offer' or a 'soft offer' and we'll never know the real truth, but I doubt there was a hard offer in writing or verbally.

I prefer to talk a look at the "my damn strong football team" pregame announcement, and then watch the Tigers dismantle Ohio State again.

Miles made that speech before the SEC championship game against Tennessee, when RP11 had a great game to win. we then went on to beat OSU in the BCS game.

Saban was announced as Bama's new coach the year before, around noon, the day we beat the shite out of ND in the Sugar Bowl.

which, technically, it was the same year, just the Saban announcement and Sugar Bowl was in January, and Miles pregame press conference was in December in Atlanta.

I'm willing to bet most of it is fabricated.

maybe so, either way I find the following a bit ironic:

5) The next time these two had anything to do with each other whatsoever was during the Jai Eugene recruitment. I've read that Lloyd Carr basically accused Les of dirty recruiting against him. Les apparently revealed to Jai that Lloyd Carr had Parkinson's disease or something like that, and wouldn't be UM's coach for much longer anyways.

Jai Eugene was signed by LSU in 2006, in 2007 Lloyd Carr resigned from UM.

Is it dirty recruiting to reveal personal information to a recruit that is truthful? Or is it dirtier to mislead a recruit to believe that the coach will be there longer than he will.

IOW, Les told the truth to Eugene, Carr lied to him, yet Les is the one being labelled 'dirty'?

That's funny.

And this coming up now..why? Because it's nothing more than the media attempting to open old wounds and try for a little distraction before Nov 5th.

Attention whores...pay them no mind and they just go away.

He did not turn down Michigan last year they never offered. The entire coaching staff at Michigan makes what miles makes. The ad is a money guy.

here's how it came down:

Miles was getting ready for a BIG game.

Mich calls.
Miles says, I am into it but I need to deal with this game.

Mich feels betrayed that Miles would not just drop everything and drool for a chance to coach Mich.

Mich took 'wait until after the game' to mean I am not so into it.
Maybe they were correct in their assessment. I think so, actually.
I dont think he wanted to go, but he was polite.
No one knows, but Miles.

At the time, I thought Miles would be crazy to go to Mich.

You look at the Mich rivals list. NO 5 stars for 2012.
30 kids (compare the Louisiana list, with 40 players).
All you need to know about whether Miles would go back is this:
Miles was an all state Ohio player. He went to Mich.
Mich has to recruit Ohio to make it in the big time.
Mich has to recruit nationally, to make it.

And Mich State is after the same guys.

reputable news source

He loathed Miles for banging Gary Mueller's (sp?) wife
and you know this how? internet rumors? and you're complaining about others denying "reputable" sources?

everyone needs to realize that the only people who really know anything are the michigan ad, whoever he told the story to, miles and whoever he told the story to. that's it. until it comes straight from them, there's no reason to put any stock in anything that's out there. even if someone other than brandon and miles spoke up, no one other than those two would know if they were telling the truth.

this is true of all coaching searches. what you hear in the media is mostly hearsay and probably inaccurate. like dennis erickson being a candidate when saban got hired.

Unlike so many in this thread, I've got no inside scoop; but the impression I've always had is that Miles and Michigan had mutual interest, Carr hated Miles for his own reasons and Herbstreit the Buckeye broke the story early with the full knowledge that Miles would have to disavow any interest on the eve of the SECCG. Then Pitt beats WV.

Don't overlook Herbie's role in this.
