If anyone does believe that, I've got some property I need to talk to you about.

If I've learned anything in my years, it's that what you hear people tell you publicly is very, very seldom completely true and accurate. It's what they want you to hear, and the way they want you to hear it.

I prefer to talk a look at the "my damn strong football team" pregame announcement, and then watch the Tigers dismantle Ohio State again.

I guess he didn't say no to them the second time either.

IMHO, the job was never offered.

I think that's the reason Miles is so focused on crushing all opponents this year. He would have gone to Michigan, and is now proving his worth, because he knows he will never leave now. Even if asked.

Les would prefer if you said they severely did not have a want to be near each other, but yes.

They be real sorry they did not take him up on his offer. I am most certainly grateful to Meechigan for not doing so. Thank you so muuuuuuuuuuuch.

I didn't think he was offered the job back in 2007, I now think it may well have been true that he was. He wasn't in 2010, that's for sure.

Saban's LSU-powerbroker/allies were backchanneling for him in 2007, when things were up in the air, that is true.

Anyone in the GIC, etc..that has ever seen Miles questioned about Michigan and it's HC job over the years, knows in their heart-of-hearts, that if he were ever truly offered that job, he'd have taken it.

Funny, how well the whole saga has worked out for the #1 and #2 teams in the country..and poor old Michigan slowly climbing back.

What is classified as an "offer?"

Is being offered a job only if the contract is typed out or whatever and slid across the table or is an offer just to talk to Les Miles about employment at Michigan?

Do I think UM came down this past year with a contract for Miles to sign or at any point typed out a contract? No. But I do think they came down cause they were interested very much in getting Miles. Herbstreit heard something from someone high up in 07 to go out on a limb and say "Miles will be Michigan's next head coach." You can hate Herbie all you want, but the guy had reason to believe Miles was heading north. So in 2011 we are supposed to believe that this same school that flew down to BR to talk with Miles was not reasonably interested in Miles?

The only reason I bring this offer thing up is I have Michigan friends who can't seem to admit Miles was wanted by Michigan in any shape or form. Maybe it's their way of saving face.

Just my 2 cents.

We can think Crowton for that. Without Crowton, Michigan would of been on bended knee to get him.

Contract negotiations is a 'job offer.' When the employer has stopped talks with other prospects, then you have been offered the job.

Carr caller RR after talking to Miles (means no offer on the table). Brandon flew here after talking to Hoke. I think he was doing PR toward Miles because, the job was already offered to Hoke. (means no job offer for Miles)

Just read in excerpt of the book in the the Detroit news. The author contends that Les was actively reaching out to Michigan officials but the AD was unresponsive. The weekend of the SEC championship the AD left for vacation in Florida and was completly unreachable even to the President of the university. Basically it sounds like herbie's scoop was utter BS & Miles really wanted the job but was never offered. LINK

I've heard this from multiple sources as well - as rumors go, it probably has legs. However, it may all have originated from the same source. That is a reason given for Saban making the "I'm not going to be the coach at Alabama" gaffe, because he thought he was coming back to LSU, and was negotiating with Bama to have a number for LSU to match. When Option A fell through, he went with Option B. Jimmy "Can't Lose" Sexton cackles somewhere in 1 of his money vaults like a cross between Emperor Palpatine, Scrooge McDuck and Bob Sugar.

I have never thought that Michigan offered the job to Les Miles in 2007. He hadn't even won a SEC title at that point (it was before the SEC game), and there's was lots of "Saban's players" talk.

In 2010, I believe that Michigan actually wanted him. I think that Miles knew what he had here in Baton Rouge (this 2011 team is not too shabby), and he parlayed the Michigan opening into an iron clad contract with LSU. Miles was respectful to Michigan and he smartly solidified his spot with a new contract here in Baton Rouge.

Well played, Les, well played!

Rick Clausen didn't have a burning passion to beat LSU?

So Saban has no 'extra motivation' when he plays LSU?

And Miles has no burning passion to disprove those at Michigan who didn't want him?

Miles and Crowton both said LSU's offense was to grind it out and win in the 4th quarter. That sure did change for this year???? And we have many years with Miles, that proves that point. Throwing on 4th and 4, up 24 against Tennessee? Keeping Lee in the 4th quarter, up by 39 against Auburn? Not Miles. Not until this year.

I may be inclined to believe Skip was trying, but I really doubt Saban was doing anything outher than a courtesy by listening. Even though some on this board still clamor for Saban to be our coach, most would have told him to F*** off if he wanted to come back to the place he tried to leave for 3 straight years.

I love how certain posters here disregard a story from a reputable news source simply because it doesn't accord with their aribitrary pre-conceived notions of Miles.

P.S. I believe Carr would undercut Miles. He loathed Miles for banging Gary Mueller's (sp?) wife.

Haven't seen a good old fashioned conspiracy littered "Miles to Michigan" thread in a while.
