You can't make chicken salad out of chicken shite. Mett has shown before that he can be very effective if he has the pieces around him.

Perhaps the Titans think it is just easier to use a QB that can potentially do more with less, rather than build around one that has all the tools to get the job done when surrounded by solid personnel.

I think he is in a great position.

Mariota was picked to come in and save the team. He is a gifted athlete, but when times get tough for him, and they will, the fans will be calling for Mett.
Mett does not have the pressure and has the experience. Mett is a NFL QB and I think if the guy keeps his confidence and perspective he will be just fine.
He looked awesome tonight. This QB battle will be interesting. I think it's far from over imo.

What they really should have done was taken one of those offers from the teams that were throwing the kitchen sink at them & parlayed that into a couple of solid OL and an under-the-radar WR. They should have built around him. Now they're putting their future in the hands of an unknown at QB & still have needs at the other positions.

Back up is not necessarily a bad place to be on a suspect squad while under a rookie contract. Stay heathy and do the deal when given game time. Somebody will take a flier on him and he'll get paid.

They're pretty stacked at WR.

They should have drafted the best OL or traded down for several roles players.

He would do well in Arizona.

That would be the perfect place for him. I doubt it happens. At least he is making money without pressure on him. In the grand scheme of things he is making a lot of money to practice football. I think anyone would trade lives with Matt Flynn.

Use his stats in his starts, Mett would have had 3720 yards at 8.01 ypa, 60.3% 21 TDs and 16 ints. That's with less than a year removed from an acl tear, one of the worst OLs in the NFL, crappy running game, and average WRs. I'd call that a great rookie year.

This. I don't follow the NFL real closely, so I don't really know which teams might be good but needing a QB.

Somebody mentioned Cincinnati the other day, saying that all Andy Dalton really has is a series of 1-year contracts. Mettenberger's ceiling is much higher than Dalton's, in my opinion.

Arizona might be a good fit, but somebody who follows the NFL more closely than I do told me AZ is going to take a step down this year.

Former Director of Pro Personnel & Scout for the Redskins & Eagles, Louis Riddick agrees with you.

Was saying this exact same thing.

That's why the same teams are picking in the top 10 every year. They need to prioritize right. Yeah the OL still sucks, the WRs are mediocre, we need defensive help, but let's go get a spread QB after getting a promising pro style passer from the bargain bin last year. A guy who performed better than he should have when you take his circumstances into account.

Yeah, the TN OL was really bad last season, and that was BEFORE a couple of OL got hurt.

I had never heard of their starting RB. They had very little ground game.

Not really sure about the WR's.
