Thanks for the youtube on "chuffing". I was about to look it up. I had a feeling it was going to be like purring or he wouldn't have put it in his letter. I know it was difficult for Dr. Baker and his staff to say goodbye. I feel for those folks. They did a stellar job caring for Mike. I'm glad their last memory was him still "chuffing" and showing the love.

It was dumb of me to start cutting onions at work. "I love ya man!! See you at the Rainbow Bridge!!!"
The video of chuffing got me.

Earlier this year, I had a dog die of what we later found out was stomach cancer. We had done many tests, but the vets were unable to confirm a diagnosis until after she passed.
For several weeks, she wouldn't eat. She only became lethargic about a week before she died. The day before she died, she did exactly what Dr. Baker describes: went off into the back of the yard and became unwilling to respond to me. She even bit me hard for the first time. Eventually, I was able to coax her back into the house. She died overnight in our kitchen.
I can't imagine going through that with a 400-pound tiger in the public eye.
Dr. Baker did everything right.
RIP Mike VI

Damn, I already miss that regal animal. What a beautiful emblem of the university. Thanks for providing him with the best, most humane treatment available.
