When I lived in Central Fla, Had the opportunity to play golf with L. Taylor in a charity Event. Asked him about Leonard Marshall when he was with the Giants. And I quote "Lenny is the meanest, dirtiest, player I have ever had the opportunity to know, on or off the Field"

By the way, Warren Capone also was a beast!

Being from Houma and going to Nicholls for my undergrad, I've seen Andolsek in more than one drunken bar fight at the Colonels Retreat back in the day.

There are a few old school guys that are much more notorious for their fights though.

Cantrelle was the one I was thinking of. There is not meaner LSU player than this guy was.

I had heard a story about some LSU player killing some guy and it getting brushed aside. I even heard Cannon was with him when this happened. This was from an old timer who knew all the stories. I'll get that name and get back to you.

wow! no A.J. Duhe listed here. Had a great career with the dolphins at his linebacker spot.

My favorite 3 linebackers were A.J Duhe, M. Brooks and Eric. Hill. all were mean and excellent.

The younger crowd was not around for Art Cantrelle, the meanest and baddest of all. Mean, hard on the field. I recall that he played in the old USA Football league (was that it?). There were numerous tales of his explosions in bars and the carnage that he left behind. Lot of good tough players at LSU over the years, Cantrelle was the meanest, baddest person to ever play football for LSU.

No doubt about it...CANTRELLE...I talked to him today at a funeral, and he is 60 I think...Still in great shape, although he is pretty mellow these days. I first met him when he moved to Biloxi from South Lafourche in high school. Baddest cat I've ever seen.

You apparently are far too young to appreciate anyone before 1985 - from your list and statements. The Cantrelle stories are just too detailed to ignore, and from too many sources. In a day and age before you tube, there were those even much worse than Eric - and Eric, was in fact a decent guy.

Get him liquored up, and like a lot of people, he didn't do too well. There are other stories I could tell - one involving Cash's in Ft. Walton back in 1984, but I digress.

That he wasn't to my understanding killed instantly, after being hit by a semi, in the middle of the day, while weedeating, speaks volumes about just how big this guy was.

Every single body part on this guy was just supersized. Most felt there was some "juice" involved - but I never heard anything definite and to say so, would be slander. Its not cool to slander people who have passed. God bless.

You know in Belle's defense, there sure were alot of a holes constantly on this guy about his momma, his family, etc..

Yes, the guy wore his feelings on his sleeves, but to remember this pencil neck a hole at Nicholls State (Ben something or another if I recall) yelling at the top of his lungs that Joey was this or that and that his family was trash, well no real baseball purist condones that.

This was the week before Joey went after a Miss State fan at Starkville that got him kicked off, If I remember correctly.

Charles is clearly just a little foolish boy - to watch him respond to reasonable statements with one word answers like "wrong" and such, is absurd.

LSU football did not begin, Charles, in 1985 - okay - get that understood!

As so many others have said, Art Cantrelle. Back about 1969, I and some friends were at the Keg, a bar on Highland Road, when Art Cantrelle walked in. He walked over to play the pinball machines, and everyone migrated to the other side of the room.....

Anyone meaner would explode, I do believe.

Eric Andolsek was a gentleman off the field, except, like many a young man, not so gentle when hitting the brewskies. Cantrell, on the other hand, was pure mean all the time. A good friend was a Sheriff's deputy, stationed at the old substation down from the Keg, & he would tell stories bout them getting a call bout Cantrell being on a rampage & the immediate response was to call all the available units in the area. One mild story was the time he picked UP a pinball machine & threw it 4 deputies who were approaching him with their batons drawn & wearing their facial shields. Freshmen were told their first practice to stay the hell away from him at all costs. He was the only player on the team not to have a roommate, no one dared try to live with him. All the guys listed here, S.Burks in particular, are in the top 6-10: Cantrell holds #1-#5 all by himself

I know there's been alot of names mentioned here that could have the honor of being called the "Meanest Tiger Ever", but I can tell all of you, Art Cantrell was a mean SOB.
There have been some names mentioned that were great football players, but were not mean people. There's difference between a hard hitting player and a down right mean person. Art Cantrell was a down right mean dude.
Art would rather go out and get drunk and fight than do anything else. He loved it. With all the attention players get now for being in bar fights, Art Cantrell would not have made it past his freshman year. I haven't seen Art in years. I'm glad to have read EWE's post, and learned Art's still around. Mean SOB, but he also was a damm good football player that left everything on the field.

Reading this does bring me to the following:

Andolsek was mean as hell.....at the right times. He absolutely was a gentleman off the field unless provoked by, say, Nicholls lineman or Tekes (18 on 1.....nice odds) at the Retreat.

Art Cantrelle strikes me as someone who suffered from bi-polar disorder, among other psychological ailments......seriously. Not a jab at all. He couldn't even room with a teammate for fear of him hurting them? Not cool.

I do concede from the folklore here that Cantrelle was indeed the meanest, craziest Tiger ever. Damn.....imagine if he had been bigger?!
