You realize that Skip isn't the one who chooses the winner of this award?

This. Every player was drafted. Catcher, 1st base, 2nd base, shortstop, 3rd base, two outfielders. Only the coach of the year could have managed to win with that lineup.

Wish they would wait till the post season to vote on this. Their winning looked like an outclassed fool at the World Series.

I think the NCAA needs to go the route of the LHSAA, separate the public universities from the private ones that are gaming the system.

Probably shouldve finished about 4th or 5th on the list.

Well if this was voted on after the regular season or even before the CWS, I understand. At this point, how could anyone vote for anybody other than the UVA coach who lost a boat load of players last year and had multiple pitchers and position players hurt, barely got in the tournament and won the damn thing.

I hear he's gonna ask Poche to introduce him.

So it's Mainieri's fault that he recruited and developed a lineup that had 7/8 (and Fraley will be drafted so it's actually 8/8)?

You realize they actually have to play the games. They can't just roll the ball out there. LSU won 54 games (most in NCAA) and were 5th out of 300 D1 schools.

One of the easiest OOC schedules in the SEC... avoided Vandy and Florida...

There were many games where he didn't have much managing to do in game... In some of the ones he did (Kentucky, Ole Mis, TCU), he struggled.

ETA: And just to be fair, I do think he did a good job throughout the year... keeping Poche on day 1, resting Lange when necessary, sticking with Chinea... I give him hell, maybe more than anyone else here, but I like using this place as an outlet. It's more fun that way.

It's his fault how he handled his pitching staff in the CWS, especially the last game like a full blown retard. Other than that, great regular season.

A staff of mostly Fresh/Sophomores. Injured top recruit. Transferred top recruit.

I'd say with those circumstances going to Omaha is pretty impressive. Apparently the voters for the Skip Bertman Award agree.

It's the non-profit College Baseball HOF in Texas that is currently about $4mill short on a new building they want. People and even institutions can 'donate' for a 'membership' which basically gets your name on the website... they have a certain interest in putting themselves in the forefront of the minds of a fan base well-known for monetarily supporting baseball well beyond any other school in the nation...

It's a crappy organization, right?
If it was any good they would have voted YOU as coach of the year, right?

How does he get credit for digging himself out of circumstances he created? He could have recruited pitchers prior to Poche's class.

You would have done it wouldn't you?

I love all of this 20/20 hindsight.

Wow you guys sure have incredible expectations.

I bet you get straight A's/4.0 GPA. Or you are all Presidents of Multi-million dollar companies with super model wives.

Mainieri gets his entire offense drafted. "They only win because the talent."

He has a young pitching staff. "He didn't recruit right."

He goes to Omaha. "He didn't win Omaha."

Rough crowd.

Sure. But once he got there?

Game 1: Left Poche in far too long after he made his throwing errors. Pretty damn obvious he was horribly rattled after that.

Game 2: Lange bailed him out from having to make any decisions.

Game 3: Starts Person. Leaves him in too long when it's apparent his curve isn't working. Pulls Newman quick when he's dealing; same for Norman. Puts Godfrey in a pressure situation when he's struggled all year with those. Same for Stallings.

His pitching changes backfire far too often. Its become a trend. Same as the hitting has been for the last four years during the post season. Great for him he's racking up those awards; can't expect to win every year, but should expect not to get embarrassed in the post season. That's been another disturbing trend.
