But to be on topic. I haven't said anything about the Latz situation.

He looked the best of all the freshman pitchers in the fall. At the time, it wasn't close. Not that the fall means very much. It means something though... We missed him this year.

My fear is that he'll eventually need surgery and this whole year was wasted trying to rehab him. If he gets TJ now, he's almost certainly done for next year too. I'm not saying that's what it is, but we know it's an elbow issue with fluid and inflammation. Which I'm assuming means micro tears at the least. PM and company are hoping it's a repeat of 2010 Renaudo. But I have my doubts. We need him next year. We are going to have to rely on pitching and he would be a huge bonus over all of the pitchers returning.

Yep.

This is what scares the shite out of me. Basically means that we get 1 year of him.

Hey for the first time in several years I can say they aren't out of it my May 1st. Do you have a MLB team you follow? Just curious.
When I was young, it was the braves... The only team I got on TV. Javy Lopez was my idol. But since college, it got really tough for me to follow teams in general. Now I just try to make as many live games as possible. Lots of Houston games... but I finally made it to Boston last year and I'm hoping to make a few more places this year. It's tough for me to watch a game on TV. I don't really find it boring. But it makes me miss playing and I'm not attached to any players like I used to be... if that makes sense.

Yeah it does. I'm probably going to go see the Cubs in Atlanta later this year. That's one thing I miss about the Astros not being in the NL anymore. It was easy to go see them a few times a year.

100% agree. I saw it coming, but I miss them being in the NL. Cubs and Cards were fun to go see.

Believe me if you want. He didn't slip out of any of the 30 teams radar. They believe he made a mistake going to LSU. But, he was unsignable. He would have been pitching in the MLB this year had he not signed with LSU. But, we have the premier pitching coach in the nation. And, fathers trust Alan Dunn. Getting a degree and allowing a child to mature is important to some parents. Coming to LSU was more important than making money now. Good for him.

I don't even know why you're arguing with me, I never disagreed with any of that, I even said he didn't just slip under the radar. He priced himself out last year, that was obvious to everyone while the draft was still ongoing. I'm sorry, but you aren't really breaking any earth shattering news to us average folks.

What I did say is that he was a different pitcher in the Fall of 2014 than he was in the Spring. And that if he was in that kind of shape in the Spring, leading to the same uptick in his stuff, then his price would have been met and he never would have been here. Videos of him from various points of that draft cycle are easy to find online, he doesn't look like the same player at all.

I may be an average fan, but the first time I heard of Alex Lange wasn't when he arrived on campus last Summer.

As an Astro fan I'll also say you haven't seen the bandwagon yet, wait until Correa is up.

He's only 20 and is making a mockery of AA in his first trip through.

You are ignorant. You don't know what the scouts thought. I'll help you. Often... players who express their strong desire to go to college do not get picked regardless of their abilities. This is not a secret.

I specifically noted that signability is a factor, but perhaps since you post about 800 times a day, you didn't read everything I wrote. However, signability will not explain the difference in someone being drafted in the 11th round and someone going undrafted. You realize scouts work for the teams that draft right; if the scouts don't like the player he doesn't get drafted. This isn't that complicated.

That's exactly what it does.

This. Does anyone remember what round Ryan Eades and Jacoby Jones were drafted? Does anyone remember what they were ranked nationally before they were drafted? If you can answer either of these questions, you are now allowed to continue this conversation, but I have more questions for you. It sounds like I have pissed off "the average fan" on this message board. I am not really trying to do that. But, there is so much ignorance that wants to express itself that I can't help myself. Did you read the paper this morning? What did Dellenger say about Latz? Oh, congratulations!!! You are now an authority.

Christ you're a tool. Its real simple, and I don't need a tweet from Ross Dellinger to let me know that a guy drafted in the 11th round by a major league team was likely more thought of by scouts than a guy that didn't get drafted in 40 rounds. Its really pretty simple.

Sadly, that is undoubtedly true.

You realize both guys had expressed an interest in going to college by signing with LSU. Yet one gets drafted in the 11th round, and one goes undrafted. Clearly the scouts preferred the guy who went in the 11th round. Even for an idiot like you that shouldn't be tough to understand.
