Latz was arguably our top pitcher in our recruiting class (that actually made it here), yes, even over Lange.

Look, everyone has an opinion. But, where do you get that from?

Lefty with a 93 MPH fastball and an established breaking ball. Yeah, he was more highly-touted than Lange. Hell, Latz was the highest pitcher drafted to not sign.

You don't know what you are talking about. I really get irritated when you, the average fan, "projects". I asked you a question. Where did you get that information. And, you didn't answer the question.

This is not to take anything away from Latz. But, you are wrong.

The MLB projected Lange higher than any other LSU pitcher. That includes Marshal. Period...

I have also read in this Rant that Lange is better than Nola. Come on. He may have had a better freshman season, but give it time. Time will tell.

Trust me, I do.

And as for projecting things, I'm doing no such thing. Everything I said above is a fact, not opinion.

You need to settle down.

That's true...but according to reports, the minute Lange was on campus and the staff saw him on the mound, it was clear that he had taken a couple of steps forward.

That's not a knock on Latz at all or on his potential. But, I don't think it's reasonable to say that because Latz was more highly touted, we can assume he would have had the production of Lange.

Lange got himself in much better shape before he reported, or once he reported, here and it made a huge difference. If he had done that a year earlier he wouldn't be here right now.

I agree, Lange was one of the most impressive pitchers of the draft class even as a sophomore and junior in HS. He never had that plus plus fastball that was an absolute draft certainty but you could always tell he would fill out at the next level.

What the hell are you talking about? I think his information comes from the fact that Latz was drafted in the 11th round; Marshall was drafted in the 21st round; and Lange was not drafted. That would seem to be an indication that Latz was projected to be better than any of them. In Marshall's case signability may have entered into why he went later. But you don't go undrafted purely because of signability. Whether you are drafted and how high is no clear indicator of what kind of pitcher you will be in college, but its a pretty good indicator of where you were projected by MLB teams.

FWIW, the draft is not necessarily an indication of what MLB scouts think

Please, as I said signability is a factor, but being drafted in the 11th round and not being drafted through 40 rounds is a pretty clear indication of what the scouts thought.

This.

Does anyone remember what round Ryan Eades and Jacoby Jones were drafted? Does anyone remember what they were ranked nationally before they were drafted? If you can answer either of these questions, you are now allowed to continue this conversation, but I have more questions for you.

It sounds like I have pissed off "the average fan" on this message board. I am not really trying to do that. But, there is so much ignorance that wants to express itself that I can't help myself.

Did you read the paper this morning? What did Dellenger say about Latz? Oh, congratulations!!! You are now an authority.

You are ignorant. You don't know what the scouts thought.

I'll help you. Often... players who express their strong desire to go to college do not get picked regardless of their abilities. This is not a secret.
