ok the regular season title means less than the SECt. That is the case in every conference.

You can win the regular season title and still not make the NCAAt.

of-course we want to win the regular season title, but even if we didn't we will still be top 8.

Look at 2013 Vandy won the regular season title, we went to Omaha they didn't.

Our goal should be to win as many games as possible, but it's not a failure if we don't win the regular season title.

They win two games and they don't have to rely on other teams winning or losing. Win less than two then they have to see what others are doing.

a regular season title is actually more important than winning the tournament imo. i'd love to do both, but if forced to choose i'd take the regular season title.

Maybe in the Big Sky. In any P5 the regular season title outweighs the tournament in prestige tenfold

lol. C'mon man. The SEC regular season title easily means more than the tourney.

An SEC team is not missing the tourney after winning the regular season title.

No doubt. In baseball and basketball the regular season title is definitely more important than winning the conference tournament.

Jesus, that's horrible reasoning

I love how people think because I used this argument I somehow don't want us to win the SEC regular season title and SECt. All I'm saying is that winning the regular season and/or SECt is overrated. I like winning them no doubt, but who would you rather be in 2011, LSU who won the SECt and lost in their regional, or USCe who went 1-2 in the SECt and won the national championship, or last year Vandy who won the national championship after going 1-2 in Hoover, or LSU who won the SECt and lost in their regional.

Again I want us to win the SECt/regular season title but if we don't I say who well and move on to what is much more important.

ok I can see that reasoning, but finishing 1st or 2nd in the SEC doesn't have a big impact on where you end up in the post season. It is likely that 3 of the top 4 in the SEC will be national seeds.

the SECt means a lot more for teams in the middle and bottom of the SEC.

You also said it means nothing. You are entitled to your opinion but if you think the sec regular season title is overrated and means nothing then you cant be helped.

Winning the SEC title is not overrated at all

This is completely pointless. It is a stupid point that has no need to be made

Winning a conference championship should be the stated goal of every LSU athletic team. Any coach taking a lackadaisical approach to a conference title should be sent packing.

CPM wants this title.

You are guaranteed to be the national seed if you win the SEC. Ask who finishes 4th this year only 1 or 2 games back how overrated the title is when they dont get that national seed

The number 1 goal every year was to win the SEC for us. We put it on the board in the lockeroom. We figured we controlled that from day 1. We always said win that, and then we can focus on the national aspirations. And from every other team in my time at LSU it seemed the same way

I may have overreacted and said it means nothing. But winning the SEC regular season title doesn't give you anything other than the #1 seed in the tourney. Usually that team gets a top 8 seed because of their resume.

Let me put it this way. If LSU Vandy and Texas A&M all get top 8 seeds, what advantage does the team with the best conference record have over the others?

I'm guessing you mean 2010 with your hypothetical. But the titles aren't mutually exclusive, and by those examples, you are arguing as though they are. I'd rather be 2009 LSU over both of those teams as we won both the regular season and tournament titles.

They get to be SEC champions for the rest of their life and will enjoy it because they are winners who want to win. Geez
