How about this "what if"?

What if we play as we have all season and beat Arkansas? LSU is in the most enviable position of everyone other than Ok State. Just win and you don't have to worry about "what if...".

And I sincerely believe we will be 11-0 when Arky comes to visit and I don't believe CLM and company will allow anything other than a victory for LSU.

I would have been nervous had TCU not beaten BSU. Now that they did, that's 1higher spot Arkansas gets. OU or Ok St now will get out of the way also. If you think Arkansas doesn't move ahead of LSU with a win then you are really just kidding yourself. I just hope LSU bumps Bama back. LSU has 0% chance at the SEC CG we a loss. Arkansas has about a 50/50 with a win. All depends on voters wanting to keep LSU above Bama

Want to know the rules? Ask a Bama fan. They are really paying attention right now. All we need to pay attention to is Ole Miss and Arky.

Incorrect.

If Arky wins a close game, the teams will be likely be ranked in the following order:

LSU
Alabama
Arkansas

(all will be within 5 spots...Therefore LSU goes to Atlanta by virtue of its win over Alabama)

LSU-Alabama-Arkansas

Arkansas can not go, period. If they whip LSU, that would put Ark and Bama in top five or so. Bama won HU so they go to Atlanta.

So LSU stays where they are with a loss? Damn some of you are sounding more delusional than Bama fans. The entire world will be watching this game. You really think that voters will keep LSU right where they are after watching not 36 hours earlier them lose. At HOME! (if it happens that way) please pass me what you are smoking.

Bama has no chance at Atlanta. The only way Bama could go is if LSU ended up ranked 3rd out of the 3....which won't happen.

LSU will finish 1st of the 3. The big question is who will be 2... if it's Bama (As it should be), lsu goes to Atlanta....if it's Arky at 2, Arky goes to Atlanta.

LSU will be the highest of the 3 regardless of how LSU-Arky plays out, though.

This is not rocket science. Rank the following 11-1 teams 1-2-3 based on the following resumes:

Alabama 11-1 (7-1)
vs Kent State W 48-7
@ #23 Penn State W 27-11
vs North Texas W 41-0
vs #14 Arkansas W 38-14
@ #12 Florida W 38-10
vs Vanderbilt W 34-0
@ Ole Miss W 52-7
vs Tennessee W 37-6
vs #1 LSU L 9-6 OT
@ Mississippi State W 24-7
vs Georgia Southern W 47-0
@ #20 Auburn W 38-13

Arkansas 11-1 (7-1)
vs Missouri State W 51-7
vs New Mexico W 52-3
vs Troy W 38-28
@ #3 Alabama L 38-14
vs #14 Texas A&M* W 42-38
vs #15 Auburn W 38-14
@ Ole Miss W 29-24
@ Vanderbilt W 31-28
vs #9 South Carolina W 44-28
vs Tennessee W 49-7
vs Mississippi State W 27-10
@ #1 LSU W 31-27

LSU 11-1 (7-1)
vs #3 Oregon* W 40-27
vs Northwestern State W 49-3
@ #25 Mississippi State W 19-6
@ #16 West Virginia W 47-21
vs Kentucky W 35-7
vs #17 Florida W 41-11
@ Tennessee W 38-7
vs #20 Auburn W 45-10
@ #2 Alabama W 9-6 OT
vs Western Kentucky W 42-9
@ Ole Miss W 36-14
vs #8 Arkansas L 31-27

quote:

The combined records of the FBS opponents for all 12 SEC schools: (as of 11-6-11)
Tennessee: 47-23 (.671)
LSU: 46-26 (.639)
Ole Miss: 46-26 (.639)
Vanderbilt: 44-28 (.611)
Alabama: 43-29 (.597)
Auburn: 47-32 (.595)
Mississippi State: 41-31 (.569)
Kentucky: 41-32 (.562)
South Carolina: 45-36 (.555)
Florida: 43-37 (.538)
Georgia: 38-33 (.535)
Arkansas: 34-37 (.479)

Speaking of Arkansas, the Hogs have faced the easiest schedule in the SEC, according to the combined records of their opponents. The Hogs’ FBS foes are a combined 34-37 (.479).

Of Arkansas’ eight FBS opponents to this point, four currently have losing records.

Nonetheless, Arkansas is one of only three SEC teams (along with Alabama and LSU) that has beaten three or more nationally-ranked opponents this season. The Hogs own wins over Texas A&M, Auburn and South Carolina. All three teams were ranked in the AP poll at the time of the game.

No. 1 LSU, coming off its 9-6 overtime win at Alabama, owns six victories over nationally-ranked foes, including two over top 5 teams.

Based on these resumes, a reasonable person should come to the following conclusions:

1. LSU easily has the best overall resume, winning vs Oregon, @ West Virginia, and @ Alabama. LSU dominated 10 of the 12 teams it faced.
2. LSU should be ranked the highest of the three teams
3. Alabama throttled Arkansas, and played a tougher schedule than the Hogs, winning @ Penn State. Alabama dominated 11 of the 12 teams it faced.
4. Alabama should be ranked 2nd highest of the three teams
5. Arkansas, by default, should be ranked 3rd highest of the three teams. Arkanasas dominated 5 of the 12 teams it faced.

Again, this is easy. If you come up with anything other than LSU-Bama-Arky, you are biased and not looking at the entire picture.

Bama has a slim chance, Ark has no chance.

For Bama to get in, Ark would need to whip LSU. If that happens that would put Ark ahead of LSU imo in the BCS. Beating LSU by ten would not be enough though, and they would still be ranked behind LSU and Bama, sending LSU to the game.

I'm with ya... Yeah, that's really the only thing that could change things is if Arky blows out LSU. That said, Arky won't blow out LSU... if they win, it'll be close and won't affect the current order after the entire resumes are looked at.

The final rankings will be (and should be) LSU-Bama-Arky.

With all due respect and hope I'm wrong, but AP & Coaches poll voters don't look at resumes with late season losses, IMO realistically, both Arky and Bama would jump LSU

If we lose to Arky, we'll need the extra points from a SECCG, imv. That's why the Vandy frick up was so huge.

LSU should be the clear #1 of the three in the computers with Bama a close 2nd. I think Arkansas would be a distant 3rd (and teams like Oregon might even wedge their way in between Bama and Arky) in the computers.

That means Arkansas would have A LOT of room to make up in the human polls to get above LSU or Bama and I don't see that happening. Some/many voters probably put Arky above LSU but in the end I bet it is a pretty even split between the 3 in the human polls and then the computers definitely leave Arky out. Thus LSU plays in the SECCG.

Of course if Arky steam rolls LSU, all this changes - but I don't see that happening.

no chance of that happening. Our computer rankings are too strong, and the voters collectively aren't moving us below both Bama and Arky.

The ONLY way that could potentially happens is if Arkansas wins Big....like 40-10. And we all know that's not going to happen.

You mean like in 2007 when we didn't lose to Arky with a National Championship team?

Everybody here is optimistic, but we aren't stupid enough either to think that beating a the #6 team in the country is in the bag.

I don't think it is unrealistic to think voters might edge out Arky and Bama over LSU - giving weight to the more recent game. However, even if that does happens it would be a small margin and then the computers kick out Arky.
