Having a yearly OOC rival hinders your OOC schedule. Especially if we move to 9 game conf schedule.

No. Tulane only has a decent year once every 20 years. That’s not consistent enough

Wow. I'd never heard about this.

The history goes back to Tulane's last season in the SEC, which was 1965. I've read a bit on the internet about their reasons for leaving the SEC back then. It's still not crystal clear, even though many decades have passed and there's plenty of time for the truth to have been revealed as to exactly why Tulane decided to leave the SEC.

IMHO, it's still quite possible that Tulane made a big mistake in doing so. Sure, they would have gotten beat up in the SEC but they would have made a lot of money, too.

It's an interesting "NOLA Sports" topic to learn about.

Honestly LSU was getting the short end of the stick. At the time Tulane was barely surviving as a division 1 program and Skip Bertman agreed to play them yearly basically as charity to our program. I think he had a daughter go there so he’s always had a soft spot for Tulane.

I love Tulane but they are a bunch of arrogant dicks and demanded more money. LSU rightly told them to frick off.

Lots of the old timer LSU fans dislike Tulane and many Wave fans still harbor a lot of jealousy towards LSU.. but I really don’t care. I just want to see Tulane win and I’ve always had a good time at LSU games with my friends

Also, rivalry??

If overall series is to be looked at to determine a rivalry and the lopsidedness of LSU-Tulane’s series is a disqualifier, is LSU-Alabama a rivalry?

In regards to the topic, would LSU make the trip to Yulman stadium every other year if this was an annual game again? Would they play in the Super Dome instead? It would it be a 3 to 1, or even 3 to 1, deal on trips?

In my opinion, if it were a yearly game, they should play in Yulman.

It seems like the LSU vs. in state schools has really slowed down the last decade or so compared to the mid-2000s.

The younger than 40 crowd consists of a lot of students and alumni that would watch the first half of a Tulane game and then get home in time to watch LSU play Alabama or some shite.

It isn't Tulane vs LSU to those people - it's Tulane AND LSU.

The rivalry is dead for that reason. There isn't any hate anymore.

I wish for Pete's sake that we at least still played Tulane yearly in basketball.

This and Tulane sucking balls for decades doesn’t help to grow a healthy fanbase.

Calling the weenies a "rival", let alone "our one true rival" just shows the IQ level of some of the ranters here.
For as long as the weenies were a true rival, LSU vs O. Miss was even bigger. Those Vaught vs Charlie Mac's game were always super intense....and meaningful. Then in recent years bama has become a huge game for LSU. As well, Fla & AU have always produced high intensity games. When a team wins 25 years in a row, has 3 62-0 wins, one team plays in front of 40K fans, the other in front of 90-100K+ fans, there really is no comparison to these SEC rivals.

And tulane has offered in past to even have their home game be in the dome and split gate. But LSU won’t agree to it

I’m from Nawlins, and have over a dozen friends and relatives that I miss calling yearly after a good Green Slime beat down.

But the two programs are no where near the same level for a home and home game every other year.

Tiger Stadium seats 102,321, and the Super Dome seats 76,468. Even if Tulane gave us the whole gate we’re 26,000 negative net seats. Plus there are cost to book the Dome.

We offered a yearly BR game, and they passed. I’m OK with that.

Instead every year we play a Louisiana school who appreciates the money. This year it was Southern.

I had a great time with Southern’s crowd and entertainment!

Personally, I wish LSU’s OOC games were only made up of LA schools.

Did you go to the LSU/SU game this year? I don't think you did . If you did you would not say that. The campus was gridlocked for hours after the game.

It’s a good thing we didn’t play them in 1998. That probably would have been a loss.

We would have had a two TD lead in the 3rd Quarter, though, and Arnold Miller would have blocked a field goal and an extra point.

Tulane isn't the same school it
was during the 30s, 40s, and 50s when this was a heated event. What percentage of Tulane students are from within 3 hours of campus? People from the NE and California don't care about this ex-rivalry.
