I don't know. We always bitch about day games but essentially we are just earning other schools more money. No company will buy an ad to watch Kentucky vs Vandy at 2:30 on CBS.

IMO the teams who bring in the most should earn the most.
Well, that isn't going to happen. It's not a tiered system, it's a collective. And in regards to UK, basketball is a huge revenue generating sport.

Welcome to the socialist American sports system

the SEC is not a private corporation. and equal revenue is one of the reasons that the SEC, as a whole, is so strong. maybe your eco prof did a poor job with you or your bias is wrong.

by the way, the NFL also built itself through equal revenue sharing. sports is a different model than razor blades.

Maybe because the athletic department doesn't exist without a university attached to it? Just a guess.

That's a pretty simple argument.

Of course the AD wouldn't exist if there wasn't a University.

It still has no weight as to how the AD is responsible for others' failings in funding the University.

In LSU's case you could disband the AD altogether and the University would lose funding.

It's bullshite they distribute it equally. Vandy gets 31 million for sucking arse and drawing literally zero TV share?

Were you not paying attention during the demise of the Big XII?

Exactly. The strong arming of Texas in the Big 12 is a huge reason why that conference is no where near what it used to be.

The Department of Athletics is a subdivision of LSU. It is NOT a separate entity nor should it be. Its head is Vice Chancellor for Athletics. The revenue generated by athletics at LSU could be used for anything the Chancellor and BOS want.

It's amazing to think that the SEC is a half billion dollar revenue a year entity.

It's not JUST the SEC, its just the SEC right now. The BIg 10 Netwrok deal is soon to be up with CBS and you can expect similar figures per university for them, albeit for less schools.

This the me first mentality that Texas used to destroy 2 conferences. The strength of the SEC model, the most successful in CFB, is equal revenue sharing.

That's why schools want to be in SEC even if it meant an arse whooping all year long in every sport

Florida ST and Va Tech did not.

Vandy won baseball NC last year. Got no problem with it. Hope they get better with their share

How much money did that provide LSU? They have never pulled their weight and their endowment is valued at 4 BILLION...they don't need that money. BTW, LSU's endowment per google is 692 million.

The NFL has revenue sharing and the New Orleans Saints' do not pull their weight when it comes to that, much in the same way that Vandy does not in the SEC. Just saying...

Can't wait to see how LSU uses this as an opportunity to jack up fan cost.

I'm curious if you quantify LSU athletics donations how it would compare. Also include what revenue the sport teams generate annually.

My main point is that people seemingly donate more money to sports at LSU than they do for academics.

Each form of donation is a different type of investment in the university. Investing heavily in athletics builds your brand nationally, and can potentially generate more money for your university. This is money that can also be given back to the academic departments.

Strictly giving to the school has a much slower payoff as you are trying to invest directly in students that will hopefully one day earn enough money to give back to the school.

I'd be surprised if aTm doesn't ask for more of the pie. After all, the Aggies created the SEC.

Why such a dramatic response? I'm not advocating Vandy receiving zero monies but it's no secret the LSU bama game earns significantly more ad dollars than nearly all other SEC games.

So what you are saying is that you want the SEC to model itself after the Big12? You realize it would be Bamma 1, everyone else 2nd.

I think that's some murky territory. If the AD is in the black independently, it has no responsibility to pay the University. It's not the AD's responsibility to fund the University.

You really believe the athletic department is truly independent of the academics? Then by Allan's feel free to use a different brand besides LSU's. I'm sure the alumni will still keep the money rolling.

Yay, more money for the athletic department to donate to fill Jindal's budget hole.

Oh yeah not equally sharing revenue worked out so well for the Big 12.
