Many of us believe that was one of the greatest or most memorable games.
Any evidence LM people (including former players) also consider that a significant game? Anyone seen any interviews or articles on this?

Played a loaded UNLV team as well. Still can't believe GT knocked tgat LSU team out of the tourney in the first round.

That UNLV game was badass!!! I think Ricky Blanton hit a corner shot to win it.

Second round, I'm pretty sure

I was lucky enough to have camped out for tickets for it

That Georgia Tech team was also loaded. Had Dale not mismanaged LSU to a third-place finish in the SEC, they might have gotten a higher regional seed than 5 and not had to play Georgia Tech in the second round. And that GT team got to the Final Four.

I was there. Team looked like they ran a marathon after that game.

Unfortunately, Hank Gathers’ untimely death took a lot of the wind out of the sails of the LMU program. I’m not sure there’s really the mass following of the program today or any ties back to the Westhead days to make that connection. Given that it was a road game that they lost against a team that didn’t go far in the NCAA tournament, I’m not sure there’d be a lot of reason for the game to be considered an all-time great for their program even if there were a lot of long-time followers. The high scoring nature of the game wasn’t that unique for LMU in that time period.

Was that the UNLV game or the Georgetown game?

G-Town, what’s crazy is we were on the verge of blowing UNLV out then Dale Brown happened. Same with the G-Tech loss in the tourney, we were up big and Browns stupidity cost us the game.

LMU made the elite eight that year losing to eventual national champion UNLV in the regional final. I don’t think their fans think about a road loss from that year with so many big wins to remember. Scoring over 100 every game was a regular thing. They only had one ncaa tournament game in which they scored under 100.

With all the “Dale Brown sucks” sentiment on this site, it gets lost that his teams produced a lot (and I mean A LOT) of memorable games. Dozens and dozens of them (if not more).
I would agree, that among those dozens, the LM game was near the top.

unfortunately the youth of today does not realize that during those days of college basketball we actually got to watch players as freshman and get to know them. Watching Shaq and Chris Jackson that had all the god given talent and how they matured into greatness and then players like Wayne Sims and Vernel Singleton complete the pieces on some of those great teams. I mean as LSU fans we know players like Anthony Wilson, Derrick Taylor, Oliver Brown because we watched them over four years and those were totally team players under Dale Brown. One thing Dale was good at was getting lesser players to step up in big moments but also I don't think Dale knew how to handle superstars all on one team. The Loyola Marymount, UNLV, Duke, Navy (David Robinson), Georgetown games were all very memorable games in the Hayday of the LSU basketball under Dale in the 1980's. I like the direction that the LSU basketball program is going and hopefully we can get back to where we expect to be in the tournament every year again. LFG

Best era of LSU basketball and will probably never be topped due to the incredible out of conference schedule and level of competition.
There were 3-4 games in the latter part of the 80s, early 90s that were amazing.

Was a horrible game for anybody who loves good basketball. Dale brown special…. Was for publicity.. treated like an all-star exhibition game. I never understood why some view this as one of the greatest……..

I was at this game. Still have the game program. It’s a 2 game program with the UNLV team roster added. The UNLV game was just a few days before LMU. .

I’d wager because you weren’t there. One of the most amazing displays ever in LSU sports, and I don’t even like basketball.
