I was there.

Me, too. As an LSU student at the time, basketball and baseball were great pick-me-ups for what Archer was on his way to doing with our football program.

Because it was.

I was there also. I was physically and emotionally drained after that game as a fan. Can’t imagine how the players felt.

That Georgia Tech team was also loaded. Had Dale not mismanaged LSU to a third-place finish in the SEC, they might have gotten a higher regional seed than 5 and not had to play Georgia Tech in the second round. And that GT team got to the Final Four.

I've always maintained this. We should have been a one or two seed with that team. But still we had a 17-point lead at one point in that game and blew it. And yes that Tech team was loaded. Dennis Scott, Kenny Anderson and Brian Oliver.

Add the Houston game at the PMAC.

We lost but that was a collection of talent like no other...

I was a student and courtside for this one. This game has a legitimate case for being the greatest regular season game in NCAA history. Two teams going full throttle with scoring points… the star power… the intensity of overtime… the crowd going nuts. One of the peak moments of college basketball in the regular season.

I know “if if if if” but if Blanton had one more year we would have won it all in 1990. That team with CJ and Shaq had ZERO leadership.

Best era of LSU basketball and will probably never be topped due to the incredible out of conference schedule and level of competition. There were 3-4 games in the latter part of the 80s, early 90s that were amazing

Completely agree. Such a great time to be a kid growing up rooting for LSU basketball. Watching those games and reenacting them in the driveway shooting hoops made for a lot of fun

Absolutely, egos took over. How much of that is on Dale - we can and have debated that for years and will for years to come.

Paul Westhead running the “system” was awesome. When westhead went to George Mason, I contacted their athletic office and they sent me a thick booklet on running that style of offense. Takes a lot of cardiovascular training to day the least lol

There’s a 30 for 30 about that season for LMU (Guru of Go) and I don’t recall that game being mentioned much if it all.

The UNLV game was just a few days before LMU

I'm pretty sure that the UNLV game was played on Super Bowl Sunday. I couldn't get into the PMAC for that game as a student so I had to watch on the TV in my Pentagon dorm room. I remember Dick Vital screaming "Bit the towel, Jerry! Bite the Towel!" at UNLV's coach every time the camera went to him sitting with his team during the game. I also recall Vital saying - "You think the big game is just down the road in New Orleans today? NO, BABY! It's in BATON ROUGE with the LSU Tigers beating up on the Running Rebels!"

That was a great year for LSU basketball with several memorable games that season. And I don't give a flying fornication what anyone else thinks, Dale Brown will ALWAYS be my favorite basketball coach. From November through March of the 80's and early 90's, he made the team, the students, and the fans feel like a big family. There was a connection with basketball in those days that hasn't been seen since. (The "Cult of Personality", if you will.)

not sure if it was mentioned, but I remember a woman on TV with big jugs jumping up in down in the stands for that game...anyone else remember that?
