to me the ball coming off at 100+ mph is best compared to what other teams do... it can tell us as a team how much better our hitters are than whoever else doesn't have those exit speeds (not knowing how prevalent 100+ mph exit speed is. if every D1 team is at that mark, then it's irrelevant)

Rummy says you only have to tap it a little bit to get that 95mph pitch up to 100mph off the bat.

That's not what I said at all, and if you don't think pitch speed has something to do with the speed coming off the bat, then I can't help you.

Not sure, but I'm fairly certain there were more than 2 people talking in this thread, so....

Well, it was mostly Josh and I, so...

lol...

Okay, let me say it in smaller words for you.

When a pitch is coming in at a faster rate of speed, then you don't have to have as much bat speed in order to generate a higher ball velocity off the bat.

Therefore, when a ball is pitched at 94/95 mph, then you really don't have to crush the ball in order to generate 100+ mph ball speed off the bat. If a ball is pitched at 80 mph, and one is able to generate 100+ mph ball speed off the bat, then they did a much better job of squaring the ball up and generating a great amount of bat speed.

And yes, pitch speed can have an effect.

Ah, so then you agree with me.

But you have to square up a ball pretty well to hit it 100+ mph

Not as much if the pitch is that close to 100 mph already.

It's pretty simple, really...

Here is a link showing some average batted ball velocities from the majors so far this year.

Where they use what?

Yes it is. The point was clearly that LSU hit a bunch of balls hard, not a physics dissertation on how it happened.

That relief pitcher was making the glove pop last night. Was very impressed with his velocity

Yeah, 'cause there's a big difference...

If you watched the game last night, you saw that our guys hit several hard shots that were either right at their fielders or where the UNCW players made great plays. I don't know why you feel the need to downplay that.

I have said as much, and I'm not downplaying that. What I'm downplaying is the lone stat that is they hit 16 balls over 100 mph. It's not a ll the significant without knowing other information...
