Wood vs metal

There are kids in high school with exit speeds over 100.

I'm not saying it didn't happen a couple times, I'm saying it didn't happen 16 times.

Your right I do. Never played baseball before. By the way did coach Will mention how many of those 100+ exit speeds were fair or foul balls? Hypothetically speaking, let just say a hitter was in a 2-0 count and just said frick it I'm likely going to see a fastball here. Let me cheat a little and he squares one up into the dugout. Would that indicate that he is a product of good coaching because he hit one 103 foul?

Its a better indicator of how LSUs offense performed than the result showed.

Well, in fairness, it just shows that they hit the ball hard, which I think was pretty obvious last night. Unfortunately, there weren't as many hits with RISP...

But, on to the regional finals we go!

I can't say for sure, but I highly doubt he included foul balls.

I think the main point is that there needs to be a few more layers of stats to tell us how that one stat is meaningful.

For example, how many of the 16 were hits? How many were put in play? How many were strikes? What was the speed of the pitch coming in? How many were pulled? How many went with an outside pitch?

On the surface, taken on its own, all this tells us is that 16 balls were hit very hard.

Kinda like a pitcher that throws 100+...

Great, but how many were strikes? How many batters did you get out? Etc..
