Is it really that difficult to figure out how people cheer for a sports team? I'm also a huge Saints fan. Didn't go to school there. Mind blown.

I graduated from state in 09 and had a lot of classes with the football players. Sported my purple and gold at least 3 times a week. The monday after we beat them in 08 Derek Peguese, among others, threatened to steal my bike for sporting my coaches polo

actually got into this discussion with a few moo u fans on the SEC rant last week. They said they couldnt understand why I wasnt a state fan and that I was bandwagon fan.

Born a Tiger, Ill die a Tiger

paging schlow mo. Heres your thread bitch

I graduated from Colorado and had kick arse seats for football games there. CU football was a joke though and we won one home game over the last two seasons. Oklahoma and Nebraska would have more fans at the game than the Buffs. I really didn't have strong ties to Colorado before or after my college years. Despite no ties to Louisiana it was easy to become an LSU fan after moving to Baton Rouge. It was like becoming a Steelers fan after moving to Pittsburgh. Some teams/fan bases are worthy of it; most are not. I loved the passion of LSU fans, the tailgating, and the electricity in the stadium.

Was born a Tiger fan. If LSU had offered a degree in pharmacy, I would have gone there instead of ULM. I root for both but would never expect ULM to even play LSU close.

FYI ...

If you live, or have ever lived in Louisiana, you pay taxes. One way or another, your money goes to support LSU because ... wait for it, wait for it ... its a public institution. I think that gives all those who never attended enough of a say so in the matter.

Also, why on God's green earth would a Louisiana boy/girl ever pull against a team filled with fellow La. citizens and coonasses? For me, I appreciate the regional flavor of the SEC - boys in La. play football better than boys from (insert state here).

it's easy to take a passing interest in the school you're attending and enjoy it for what it is but it doesn't come close to what you feel for your favorite team.

My school just got back football last year. I've been to about 6x as many games at LSU since 2000 than Lamar has had games at all.

Was it hard to not support the school you attended? I understand people who go to olol or brcc, schools that do not ever play lsu, that can support both schools. I would think if I attended a different school, I would have to support the school I attended. Just curious as to how you can go to another university and not support that school.

I grew up 10 min walking distance to LSU. I was at the Earthquake Game, I saw Shaq and Chris Jackson play there, I saw our CWS Domination During the 90's. I went to Nicholls. If LSU had a culinary school I would have gone there. i was going to LSU games while at Nicholls. I love NSU but I bleed PURPLE & GOLD!!!

I went to USL for most of my undergrad and cheered for both teams. USL had Jake Delhomme at the time, so we had something to cheer for. I was always an LSU fan first and foremost, however. I finished my undergrad and got my master's at Univ. of Houston and am getting my doctorate from Valdosta in GA. Still love LSU!

I get TONS of shite at work from people wondering how I could be an LSU fan and I tell them all of the time that I have been one since I was born. I have finally decided to get a Business Communications certificate from LSU to hang on my wall so they would shut the hell up... Probably won't work though.

Grew up going to LSU games. Family had season tickets. I was three years old my first game. Went to games through High School. I went to LSU for 3 years and had student season tickets. My senior year got very sick, had to drop out of school, take care of illness for about a year. Stayed in New Orleans and Graduated from Our Lady of Holy Cross in New Orleans. Bought LSU season tickets as soon as I graduated. Unless I cheer for OLHCC flag football team, not exactly fun, So no it wasn't hard to cheer for LSU! Now my Brother grew up same as me, but went to Texas AM. He is die hard AM. He came to the game with me this weekend, his first since 1994. Stated no love for the Tigers!

I joined the Air Force out of high school and have taken classes on line for about 16 yrs!! LSU represented my home state and that made it very easy to continue to support them. If I was good enough, I would have given anything to play at LSU, but I wasn't.

I went to undergrad at LSU and got my law degree from Loyola. If Loyola still had a football program I'd root for both teams and wear both colors when they would play each other. If I would have gone to Tulane or Old Miss, things might be different, luckily I don't have to make that choice.

The real question for people with two alma maters is do you give the undergrad school more love because it was your first school and your primary institution or do you give you graduate school top billings since it was your most recent school?

I have friends that finished at LSU with me then got degrees from ULL, they wear both colors and sometimes get shite from both teams, but that is what I would end up doing. When you have a reason to split your loyalty, then you should be able to back either school to whatever degree you want.

Decisions, decisions...

70% of LSU fans didn't even go to college

I'd like to know the exact %, but judging from all the drunks in and around TS, that's a pretty fair estimate.

Being an L.S.U. grad isn't a pre-requisite for being a fan, (Google Alabama fan) but I can say with reasonable certainty that all the cretins who trash the campus (And surrounding areas) are not LSU alums and have never seen the inside of a college building except maybe when taking a whiz on game Saturdays. (If they're even lucky enough to find an open building)

This thread makes no sense to me. One should not equate being a fan of a sports team with being a fan of a college degree or university.

Are you a fan of any professional teams of any sport? Did you ever a member of *that* team?

I understand that as a Graduate of the school, one should have "special attachment to that university" - but, it should be for the memories of knowledge learning, poon hunting, and good times experienced -- it shouldn't be because "they have a football team".

I grew up an LSU fan before I even attended 1st Grade. I ended up attending 3 different Louisiana universities and one out of state university for different reasons. Why should I give up my lifelong passion for rooting for LSU Football team just because my educational opportunities were elsewhere?

Simply does not make sense to me.

The saints argument is not valid. It is not like the saints have a school. Stop being butt hurt because you did not come to LSU. The thread was not started to bash fans who did not go to lsu. It was a question. Sorry you non lsu people are so sensitive.

I am from that area, and I just can not fathom spending my last years of school in Ruston. It's a nice, clean city...just nothing to do.
