re: LSU #6 in USA Today PreSeason Top 25

Any naysayer's regarding the SEC have anything to say about how competitive and how superior this league is after seeing that poll? The team ranked #1 in the USA Today top 25 poll (UGA) was not even predicted to win their division in the SEC…..if that does not tell you how good this league is, I don't know what does...

Is that accurate?? Where are you getting that from? Or are you joking?

What's even more surprising is the three no. 1 votes for LSU. Wonder where those are coming from?
I expected a handful of number one votes for LSU because I'm sure there are coaches that are of the mindset that if you finish last season #1 that you are #1 until someone beats you.
I think we'll be a little lower in the first AP poll as most sportswriters probably aren't of that same mindset.
What he said.

quote:Actually, I would expect more sportswriters to hold that mindset than coaches. All of the coaches I've met or heard from have consistently viewed every year as a new start and a new season, having nothing to do with the previous one.

Imo, we should not be #1 this year just because last year's team was #1. If this were the NFL, possibly. But this is not the 2007 LSU team, just like Florida last year was not the 2006 Florida team, etc. The 2007 LSU team is #1 forever, can't be dropped in rankings. This is a new LSU team, the 2008 LSU team. It should be ranked on its own merits, not on the accomplishments of the team that came before it.
At least, that's my opinion.

Duke did not get a vote. What the hell? When's the last time that happened?
Yeah, I thought Spurrier always gave them a first place vote in the first coach's poll. Maybe I'm remembering wrongly though.

bnap, Back to nap for you!
This poll, although preseason, makes more sense than the rival.com poll IMHO.

Not a #1 vote. A 25 vote. SS must not be voting this year.

I agree, LSU is ranked too high for a first yr starter at qb and new d-cood.

Nope, hes voting. Must have just forgotten.
Or Duke did something to piss him off.

I totally agree. I was just saying that I know I've heard some coaches say that before. Not that I agree with it, but that is why we got the votes.

Apparently this does not matter.
All that matters is that we open the season with 3 non-BCS opponents.

well that answers that.
I'm telling you dude, SS wanted out of SC and to go back to Duke, but they hired Cutcliffe instead, so he's PISSED.

At least that's what I read in an interview with him.
Is he one of the voters this year?
