It's going to take some getting used to for me. I thought the rules stole an at bat from Jobert. Yes, I get it, stop doing that Jobert. I also thought the mound visits were incredibly rushed, which could have a negative impact on how well guys warm up to come into the game from the pen (i.e. more injuries). I'm okay with moving the pace, but not at the expense of quality at bats and pitcher health...and probably game changing infractions.

Well said.

This is my only gripe. Give them a full minute at least.

My only issue is the mound visit as well. It’s really not a lot of time to have a conversation where the pitcher and catcher may have input. 45 seconds to a minute would be better.

I’m not sure this favors the pitcher as you suggest. With the faster pace, the pitcher may get a little winded in a long inning. JJ called a mound meeting one inning just to let Skenes catch his breath.

Also the TV broadcast needs to adjust to the new pace. We missed quite a few pitches because they were showing replays, graphics, etc.

Cool.

I fricking hate it.

Baseball has been played for a hundred years without a clock and we don’t fricking need one now.

The only thing I am worried about is the rule making the batter get ready in 10 seconds is another advantage for the pitcher.

Bunch of bullshite. Bunch of Prima Donnas. Get in the box and hit!

I noticed this early in the game, for sure. Not positive that it just wasn't poor awareness on the broadcast team, but I guess we'll see. It bothered me, but not as much as losing a strike or losing time for a bullpen arm to get ready. Again, I just don't want to see a hitter lose an at bat bc he wants time to breathe or a pitcher hurt himself rushing the pitch clock or to get ready in the pen. If nothing changes, we'll see more balls called on the pitcher, too, and I hate that just as much. I expect clever ways to skirt the rules, though. LSU has worked on the clock, and still seemed rushed. On to plan B.

I don’t like the auto strike. Would rather the pitcher have the option to throw even if batter isn’t ready but they would still have to hit the zone.

Jobert is incredibly extra. Without seeing the clock, I thought they could've popped him a few more times. I stand by my stance that the rules are a bit extreme, though.

Yall know that these changes were to accomodate TV's insistance that games last no longer than 3 hours, to fit their timeslot. I am against any clock in baseball. Let the umpires control the game like was always intended.

This. You’ve got 30 seconds to get in the box. If you’re not ready it’s on you. But auto-strike is absolute horseshite.

Isn’t MLB this year implementing some the rules changes tried in the minors?

I admittedly played a college level lower, but in the minors we were rushed constantly. As soon as the hot dog race in the outfield finished it was get on the mound and throw. This is minimal in impact unless you make it an issue. Coaches and players are perfectly capable of working within this system, just going to take a minute to get it figured out. We saw everything from jobert to coaches to tv already adjusting tonight. Perfect time to get that all worked out in my opinion.

Now come nut cutting time when we’re fighting the best in sec, regionals, etc, this shite needs to be ironed out and no subjective decisions on the field made. That’s where it’ll matter

Too rushed for my taste. Games have a flow and a feel to them. This felt like rave night at the State Palace.

There was no flow. It’s like someone said play ball and then turned on a firehose.

Not sure if you’re serious. Skenes threw a 12 strikeout shutout. Him being winded probably had more to do with his first start than the pace of play. Plus doesn’t the pitcher have an extra 10 seconds to throw the ball compared to the better getting ready?

A big part of pitching is getting into a rhythm. This is much easier when the batter has to be in the box so quickly.

For me, it takes away a part of the game. It was a tactic of Jay Johnsons to stall some with mound visits. It cost Jobert a strike and ultimately a strikeout yesterday. And reasons we had pitchers faking throughs to 1rst or 3rd was because of the limited time rules. LSU lived in the late innings last year, and won a few that way. Maybe we’ll be so good that the 10 run rule will always be good for us….but I doubt it.

Really liked the new rules. I'd say my favorite is the sending in the signals to the pitcher/catcher followed closely by the batters being timed. The combination of those two rules alone makes the game much easier to watch for the fan. Batters fiddling with their batting gloves after every pitch was very annoying to me. If you look at old films from 50's and 60's, the players didnt wear batting gloves and didn't mess around between pitches. When I played in HS in the early 70's we hardly ever stepped out of the batters box if there was no one on base. It was like hitting against a pitching machine. Players will adjust and so will the fans.
