do you think Helenihi would be on the field if Chad Jones wasnt playing football right now?

I dont think he's hitting .250 for lack of trying. I think a better approach would be to let him work out of it.

How long do we "let him work out of it"? This isnn't the MLB seaso nonce again. We have already played 18 games and have only 38 left before the SEC Tournament. So how many more games do we give him? 5? 10? 20? Rest of season?

I think giving him through tonight and this weekend is enough (that's 23 games) to "work his way out of it" before he needs to be benched for a game or two (once again, not talking about a permanent benching or his job being up for grabs...but just a "think about things" and practice really hard benching).

I don't think he should get a free pass the entire season just because he did great in previous years.

This is so stupid.

Who do you think can do a better job than Dean?

He can't break out of his slump while on the bench.

I hear some reserves are going to get to start much like last night, but don't take that to the bank.

If he bats .250 through the SEC tourney and then comes alive for the regionals, I'll take it. Whatever it takes to get BD's bat hot.

It's the same premise

Not really.

you dont bench your best hitter from the last 2 years because he is slumping

Keyword LAST YEAR(S). Welcome to this year. We're 1/3 of the way through the regular season and he hasn't woke up yet. And yes you do bench them for a little bit if that's what it takes to get them out of their slump if they are NOT hitting to get out of it after so long.

quote:

you DO bench your worst hitter from last year and worst hitter this year when he isnt performing

He isn't the worst hitter this year. His average isn't even among the 3 worst among our starters. So what if he doesn't have a couple more XBH? He's not hitting .250...he's not hitting .225. He's hitting like .275.

And for the MILLIONITH time...he was signed and mainly plays for his DEFENSE which is very, very good. He is not expected to hit .300+.

again, that is funny. If that were true, he wouldnt have lost his job to Hanover.

you dont stick a player in RF because he is a great defensive player.

God you are an idiot...Time and time again Heleini has shown he is a great defensive player. Maineri has praised him over and over for what he does in the field. Stop being stupid.

Where else was Hanover going to be inserted? RF? No. Helenihi has played RF before and Hanover is an infielder so that's where he went. Helenihi is a better 3rd baseman over Hanover but Hanover can't play RF. Think -> Type -> SUBMIT

Schimpf needs to start hitting the ball IMO.

Dean has a better OPS than Helenihi

more HR's, more RBI, more total bases, etc.

Helenihi has easily been our weakest hitter. And he was bad the last half of the year last year. It's doubtful that he is going to come around like a lot of people suggest.

i for one never said helenihi wasnt sucking arse either, cuz he is, but dean is supposed to be this teams best hitter, and he is miserable so far. that is the point

Maybe, maybe not. If Chad Jones panned out - no. If he does not - yes.

Chad has the same defensive capability and has a plate potential. But he hasn't consistently shown anything yet.

Yes. CJ has been away from BB a little while and doesn't seem very comfortable presently. I watched him miss 2 flys in LF that he should have caught. DH wouldn't have missed them. JMO.

Jesus Christ. I said for ONE or TWO games. Not the rest of the year.

And with the way Dean has been at the plate NUMEROUS guys could do as good or better for the 1/2 game(s) he would be out.

Well if thats the case, Schimpf needs to take a break too. Let Nola play 2b.

I dont disagree with a lot of what you're saying, but you put way too much stock in batting average. Batting average is NOT the most important statistic for offense in baseball
